FZS600 Fazer / My 2nd Fazer , gearbox issue?
« on: 14 May 2021, 06:16:39 pm »
So just picked up my 2nd Fazer (left to me a late friend)

The bikes only done 16000 and it's a 1998 fzs600 , been sat for a long time so I've had the carbs off and cleaned them , drained the tank and repaired the petcock ,

After getting the carbs back on and firing her up she ran lovely , took her for a run up and down the road to see how she feels and she felt lovely

Now for the issue , 2nd gear seems to whine alot louder than any other gear , my 1999 Fazer doesn't make a sound anything like it ,

A bit worried about it, how worried should I be ? Is the gearbox ruined

During changing the bearings I found the original one was completely shredded

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Sticky rev counter
« on: 16 May 2020, 02:17:19 pm »
Well it worked good for about 5mins then got stuck at 5k again , if I run the revs right up to 11 or 12 it will kick back in again then when I drop the revs again it gets stuck , hopefully don't need a new tps

I'll check the connection and wiring for breaks :/

Doesn't effect the running at all mind

Just balanced the carbs and pulled the tps out and cleaned the crud from edges , seems to be working now

Gonna go for test ride now and I'll update when back

FZS600 Fazer / Sticky rev counter
« on: 16 May 2020, 09:35:16 am »
Hey guys ,

So I've been reading all the tps stuff and I'm pretty sure this isn't a speed sensor fault ,

The rev counter kinda gets hung up at 5000 then kinda wiggles it's way up , then gets stuck there again , never drops to zero like some of fault code stuff .

What can this be ?

I've checked the tps and the Speedo if in effected , working as usual

Cheers guys

Sounds to me like you just need to pull the carbs out and give them a good clean (jets and float valve)

And definitely drain the tank if its been sitting for a long time

Also could check the inlet rubbers for a air leak somewhere

FZS600 / Cam chain tensioner
« on: 06 January 2020, 10:29:11 pm »
Hey guys ,

So, took the carbs off the Fazer yesterday for pre spring clean and while I had access I thought I would pull the cam chain tensioner to see if there's any steps left (rattle on idle when cold)

There was about 4 clicks left which I thought was strange as there's a rattle on idle , should that slack if been taken up by now?

What do you think ? Sticky tensioner ?

Cheers

I don't think mine has failed but its still got a way to go on the auto adjustments but in a year it still hasn't moved to the next stage so still rattles until warm ?

Sorry for the late reply forgot to hit notify!
Cheers for the replys, looks like side light circuit would be ok for me, my spots are the same as the evil bay link but without the angel eye , I'll go for that and fit a switch inline for mot

Just got some spots for the fazer and going through different wiring ideas , is it safe to use the live feed for the headlights for power or will it draw to much power for the circuit? The spots are 30w each

I too swear by the Osram nightbreakers. However if the Cree spots i'm about to put on my Tracer do the biz then Obvs it makes sense to do the same to the Fazer too, esp as I use it for commuting, often late at night. Where / how have folks fitted them? (Yeah yeah, at the front, facing forward - I know... ;) )

I made some short straight bars out of bicycle handle bars.
Tight up under the front of the fuel tank is a infill frame strengthening web it has holes drilled through it so I fixed my mounting bars through them.
I hammered a 10mm bolt up the end of my bars so that the head was about 30mm inside the mounting bar then shoved some tissue up against the the top of the bolt hard from the other end and filled the 30mm with Araldite, this firmly fixed the bolts into place, the bars were then mounted through the web infill in the frame, to bung the other end of the bars I purchase some cheap and cheerful handle bar weights than mounted my Cree LED to the bars.

Some guys have mounted their LED spots to the radiator, the only problem wit this is if the bike get knocked over or falls over it will shag the rad big time and if that happens 30 miles from home you have got a long push ahead of you.
That is genius Tommy, do the bars go right through?
