FZS600 Fazer / Thundercat forks swap just a little help
« on: 09 June 2015, 07:03:20 pm »
Got myself a pair of thundercat forks off fleabay, they fit in the yokes nicely, front wheel fits well and the Speedo drive just slotted in and located on the forks just right, even the fazer mudguard can quite easily be made to fit with a couple of fabricated brackets. The only issue I've got is the brake calipers, the holes line up nicely but there's an overlap of fork to caliper mountings. Has anyone fitted tcat forks with fazer wheel? How did you achieve front brakes?

Do any of you knowledgeable focers know if the internals of the thundercat forks would fit in fazer forks? If I could get hold of a pair could I strip them and swap so I can keep fork sliders, wheel and Speedo drive but giving me adjustability.

Help, I don't know if anyone here can help with this, I know it's a car but but it's an engine, 04 polo 1.4 running fine one day and seized up next the next morning. I parked up with no issues next day it turns over a couple of times then stops, then click click, ok, charge battery and click click. Cam belt covers off and I found a broken guide pulley so wondering if it's jumped a couple of teeth and jammed on a valve, cam carrier off, all valves appear to all be up so crank should turn....no. I've been wielding spammers for a fair few years now and have never had an engine do this, it's acting like I've been thrashing it with no oil in and seized solid but it had been left out over night and was stone cold, oil at correct level. I'm stumped so I was hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on this.

FZS600 Fazer / Rear end overhaul and R6 shock swap
« on: 26 October 2014, 03:28:57 pm »
I'm now in possession of an R6 shock, supplied and modified by kebab19, many thanks to him for that and what a lovely looking thing it is too. As my chain and sprockets are at the end of their life I thought I would take this chance to strip out, clean and overhaul the rear end.

I removed front sprocket engine cover, chain fling, so much chain fling every where so I set to with a shovel, an hour or so later and I've found crank cases, another hour and it's as clean as I can get it.

Now check front sprocket nut and it's the old type but luckily it is tight and in good Nick but will still be replaced for thicker one.

Sprocket teeth have looked better.

Splines looking good. Back wheel out next then undo linkage and remove and amazingly it looks well greased and bearings are in good nick so just regrease needed there. Next swing arm bolt, worryingly not very tight, removed rear brake and torque arm and caliper then dropped the swing arm out rear shock next and yuck.

Set to with the degreaser and scrubbing brush.

General / EU Anti tamper law plans
« on: 23 April 2012, 11:27:42 pm »
I was reading an artical today about these planned anti tamper or modification laws.
Now i'm getting worried, i've just spent the last 2 years doing up my bike with a liberal sprinkle of after market parts so i'll be pretty p***ed off if my bike ends up ilegal because i made it how i like it. What about highly modified cars, they don't seem to be gatting any attention, what about all the manufacturers that make these parts that will be outlawed, bad for employment, bad for the economy and bike shows are going to get really boring, rows of bog standard bikes.
A vote on this was moved to july from this month (april) so there isn't much time to do any thing about this.
I would be interested to hear how others feel about this and if anyone knows of any protests going on or other events highlighting this.

FZS600 Fazer / SP exhaust can from ebay
« on: 19 April 2012, 11:31:46 pm »
I remember seeing a while ago a post about SP exhaust from ebay and wether it would pass MOT.
Just over a year ago i purchased an SP can and it passed the MOT but it was one of the advisories for being a little on the loud side
On a personal note i think it sounds nice with out letting the whole town i'm going out and it looks good, slightly smaller than the original
and my bike runs smoother than it did before.
Has anyone got one of them and how did you find it?

In the beginning there was a fizzy. Then came 17 and a CB100n, i still don't know why but it got me through my test. Then came a z500, great fun but still don't know how i didn't kill myself on it. Then Thatcher's Briton didn't suit me and years of no money and bodging together crap bikes ensued. Eventually back on me feet, family, mortgage etc and enough cash to bye something worth riding led me to a 99 600 fazer, best fun I've ever had on two wheels. So there you have it my biking life story in a nut shell.
Bike's done a fare few miles, engine is sweet but handles like a pig now so I'm currently replacing head stock, wheel and swing arm bearings, rear shock is good and I've replaced the pitted leaking forks for some immaculate later ones, some new tyres and show me the sunshine.
So i will probably needing some help soon, if that's ok. :)
