Sound advice, I'll wait till next year once I've been running around de-restricted for a while

My buddy 'Wildplum' had a 2013 Bonny T140 Thruxton, lovely bike, but could not keep with my 2003 FZS 600, not on acceleration or top speed.
The handling of the Bonny was pretty amazing though.
The picture below is not Wildplum's Bonny but exactly the same model and colour scheme, cracking looking bike (If you like naked bikes)

If your looking for a quicker bike that an unrestricted FZS 600 the Bonny is not the way to go.

Foxeye Fazer FZS 600:

Maximum Power 93.7bhp / 61kW @ 9.500rpm
Maximum Torque 61Nm / 45ft lbs @ 9.500rpm
Top Speed 133-139mph Depending on who you believe
0-60mph in 3.8 seconds

2013 T140 Truxton Bonniville 900:
Maximum Power68bhp / 51kW @ 7400rpm
Maximum Torque69Nm / 51ft.lbs @ 5800rpm
Top Speed 126-132mph Depending on who you believe
0-60mph in 5 seconds.

The FZS 600 overall performs better, the T140 has a lot of grunt and is a beautiful looking machine, but I think the FZS 600 in any of its guises is a cracking looking retro machine and definitely make its owners smile, I still have my FZS 600, Wildplum sold his Thruxton.

Both nice bikes, this is the Fazer I own It's the "00 model I've never ridden an unrestricted version so the anticipation of getting my DAS and de-restricting it is killing me

*Edit: I don't wan't to swap it for anything slower

Kura what age are you? not being funny, nice bike as the Bonnie it is something you buy when you are 60+ If you are a young fella you will get bored with it.

Turning 24 in a month, then I can sit my DAS

Best think of the Daytona as an out and out track bike, not comfortable much on the roads for distance/commuting etc. Bonneville a very much more relaxed ride. Chalk and cheese really. If I were a young gun, id jump at the daytona, but being a grumpy old twat, the bonnie is more suited. Have a look around for a compromise between the two. Or have both :)

I love everything about the fazer, maybe I could go for a newer gen but I'll see how it runs derestricted, my only gripes are the seat gets really uncomfortable after an hour or so of riding and it gets super vibratey around 6k rpm. The bonnie is a beautiful bike all the modern revamps are amazing from Triumph, but maybe I'd get bored of it too quick at my age. I'll check out local dealers see if I can get a test ride someday, being new to the biking culture it's crazy overwhelming with the amount of styles and opinions out there. I can see myself owning several bikes when I put on the years  :lol

Bonneville and Daytona are very very different to each other, and the Fazer. Bonneville a low powered upright naked. Daytona an out and out sportsbike. Fazer is an excellent mixture of the two styles. I would very much suggest derestricting the Fazer first and see if you like the extra power. Give it a few months, then decide.
BTW I've also got 2 Triumphs and they are nice :-)

Hopefully someday I'll be able to try both out, for now I'll see how I like the fazer once it's derestricted. Any aftermarket seats you can suggest? The stock gets really uncomfortable on longer distance runs.

I'm currently riding a FZS600 "00 pretty decent mileage for the age around 24k it's restricted however due to my license but I can sit my DAS in a months time, my thoughts are to either keep the bike once it's derestricted and clean it up a bit (new pipes/can/forks etc, the works) but would be an investment I wouldn't get back if I did eventually sell. I've been looking at Triumphs a lot recently the style of the bikes really speak to me, and I've been looking mostly at a Bonneville T120 or a Daytona 675R can anyone suggest other bikes to look at or give me good reasons to invest in my Fazer? I've been riding just under 2 years started out on a chinese learner bike Lexmoto ZSB 125 it was a cruiser style of bike but after riding the Fazer for a while now I'm leaning more towards Sportier styles.

You can forget about the restrictors, as long as they're in right they don't affect idle. If you've been adjusting the mixture screws they're probably off and the carbs probably need a balance.

I see, once the plates are out I'll have the carbs balanced.

Well that's the new air filter put in, and the bike started up right away with just the button and no throttle after sitting for a week. There is too much snow and ice for me to take it a run to see if it's running right but at least my starting issue is solved, as for the idling I've had to set it a couple o' hundred rpm above standard to get it sitting smoothly the standard is 1150-1250 RPM I have it sitting around 1400-1500 I think it could be the restrictions causing the idle issue. I'll come back with updates when I've had it proper run once the weather improves, cheers for all your advice and have a good Christmas/New years when it arrives o/

Well my new filter arrives tomorrow and I will fit that first see how things go before checking other things. I have a Haynes workshop manual so will reference that when checking the electrical stuff. You might be right about the air filter being the source, I bought a new one couple of weeks ago a DNA filter but didn't realise it was a high performance one something like 60% more air intake and with the bike being restricted it didn't like it too well lots of lurching and exhaust popping I then removed that and put the old air filter back in when I got a new battery a few days ago and that's when my starting/running problems came back the old battery was basically dead so that was the reason then, but with me having put the old air filter back in I've likely reintroduced the same problem. I changed plugs/carb rubbers and air filter all at once and it ran great but with the minor lurches and bad fuel/air ratio. Will take your advice on focusing 1 thing at a time.

*EDIT: It's a stock air filter I've bought this time

(Apologies Disorderlypunk, I didn’t notice you’d already made the point about the drain hole.)

The innards of the silencer are mild steel and rot through at the base so the gases can blow out of the gap around the pipe where it enters the stainless can. You may be able to bodge it by squishing in as much high temperature silicone sealant as possible. I got a couple of extra years life out of mine that way.
Having said that, I doubt it’s the cause of your running issue which sounds much more like an electrical problem to me.

What should I look at electrically, like the ECU and fuses? The bike does want to start though indoors, but is very hesitant in the cold like it's stalling and putting out a couple of rpm. Wouldn't an electrical fault prevent bump starts too?

when you say small hole at base of exhaust - do you have the factory exhaust on there and do you mean at the lowest/most forward part of the silencer - i think that one is meant to be there for drainage - i noticed that hole once i realized how fucked the insides were as i was getting a lot of escaping gasses through it

Hole is around there, and yes it's the factory exhaust.

Note that there is meant to be a drain hole at the bottom of the exhaust can. It’s there to drain condensation out.

I'm aware of the drain hole, this is a different hole I can see exhaust fumes firing out of it just as the base of the can itself

Cheers for the input, have a new air filter arriving Saturday and found a small hole/leak at base of the exhaust will get that fixed and not look at anything else until I've tried it with the new changes then I'll make a note of things/try one thing at a time. If all that fails I'll just have a mechanic look at it, I'm still a novice at the maintenance side but learning a tonne.

Definitely the engine turning and no mods that I'm aware of will double check. I think my main cause is the restriction plates being in too long and an aging air filter. I'm aged for my DAS in a month(hope my theory is still valid). Will fit a new air filter and if problem still persists I'll look over all the plugs/electrics and hoses once more before new year then wait till I pass my test and get the carbs balanced/cleaned once the plates come out. All this restriction nonsense is a pain.

Brand new, it's a Yuasa YT12B-BS Powersport I doubt the battery is the issue, I could hear the engine wanting to fire but was really hesitant. Got it to Bump start on first attempt.

The battery was fitted the other day, and yes short journeys It's been roughly 10 mile round trips daily to work don't get out much due to winter weather. Waiting on new air filter, pipes and filter shouldn't affect starting up though?

Hi all, new member here o/ need your advice.

My Fazer600 "00 has been restricted at the carbs for a year now and I'm unsure if those are causing my problems. I've recently changed the spark plugs/carb rubbers/battery/fuel filter and cleaned out the old air filter with compressed air. It's ran fine up until Winter, the bike will start up when kept inside, but a few hours outdoors and I'm having to resort to bump starts to get going(with the old/new battery) I also have horrendous idling and bogging I've attempted to adjust idle mixtures but it doesn't make a difference. The bogging is really bad at low speeds/gears and there is a tonne of exhaust popping when downshifting no matter how often I try to adjust the mixture it doesn't help.

I appreciate all your input.
