My local parish council does that, never understood the logic behind that other than its a cheap albeit shit road surface. WIll ping my local counciler for an explanasion.

Trust me, as a parish councillor it wouldn't of been them. Speed limits are set at county level. But it is all to do with road surfaces. When a limit is reduced from national speed limit to a 50, the level that the road has to be maintained too is reduced, therefore saving money. Look at how many 50's sprung up after 07 economic crash.

HarryHornby,

A light sand will be fine but not really necessary unless you have marks, dings you would like to remove. Otherwise just apply the danish oil with a cloth, let it soak in and remove any excess.

Took the bike today, started no worries and no problems at all, apart from the now confirmed holy exhaust.
Im guessing wetness somewhere, but wouldn't bet on it.
Thanks all.

Don't know about those parts, but I'm in the middle of an argument with them over there rear brake calliper seals and the dust seal being too small.

Yeah to be fair I hadn't warmed her up but then again the problem occurred after a couple of miles of riding. Not using it again until Friday so will keep you posted.

That's as it may be but if at some point before you had it or some small debris has got in they will block the small elbow.  These have holes of about 1mm very easily blocked, I've cleaned out or replaced many over the years.

Ah.

Would a misfire last for an hours ride?

FZS600 Fazer / Temporary lack of power
« on: 19 January 2020, 12:15:05 pm »
This is from Friday.
Went to work on the bike 35 miles away, fired first time after 3 weeks and nothing unusual. It got a clean over Christmas but wasn't warmed up to dry out. Felt the exhaust was a bit noisy but seeing as I still run original pipes not too concerned.
The bike sat in the rain all day at work and it was cold, started first time but then stalled as I pulled away up the hill, restarted fine and off I went. Pulled onto the main road which is a quick acceleration due to the brow of a hill and then after 300 meters slowed for a 30 zone, all good so far.
A mile or so the 30 changes to 40 and I roll on in top gear but the bike judders and won't pull, do it a couple of times and drop a couple of gears but the same, but at a constant throttle its fine, or a very gradual increase in speed. After another couple of miles pull over and rev the bike in neutral and revs fine. I set off again and all is well, pulls fine in all gears and the exhaust note seems to have changed.
Was this a misfire, a dropped cylinder due to the cold and wet? Is there a chance that it was running like that all morning and that was the throaty noise I assumed was a holey exhaust and is it ok to run with a dropped cylinder?

Cheers
Nick

General / Re: Halogen headlight switch to LED
« on: 13 November 2019, 09:45:30 pm »
Nighteye brand LED headlight bulbs are excellent. The led is in the same position as the equivalent bulb, so the pattern is the same. They are also long lasting and the heatsink doesnt have a fan, so they fit most bulb spaces without problem. highly recommended and much less sketchy than no-brand chinesium led headlamp 'bulbs'.

Are these a straight swap into a FZS600?
I have night breakers which are great in high beam but not great on dipped. I don't really have the time to do any conversions.

I just got some of the new Gerbing gloves ie from the new range. Got the short cuff ones as I like my jacket sleeve over the glove so rain doesn't run down inside the glove. Design flaw means that the temp controllers on each glove end up under your jacket sleeve, not great seeing as it advertised as to go under your jacket sleeve.
Two days use and both gloves failed, replaced under warranty no questions asked but not a great start.

Other advise is if you don't want to get wet go Goretex.

FZS600 Fazer / Rear Brake Light Switch
« on: 19 September 2019, 08:50:20 pm »
So I noticed today that my brake light was constantly on. Gave a wiggle to the rear brake switch and out it went, thought I would fix it later as late for work.
Got to work and it was permanently on again so gave the mount a wiggle again and it didn't go out. Sprayed a load of WD40 as I  thought it might be sticking and pulled the rubber boot off and sprayed load in there as well. Thats when the smoke appeared!! Disconnected it for the return home.
So does it just need a good clean, the clips look reasonable, or should I just replace it? The plunger moves fine with the pedal, but if it smoking is something shorting

Also if I wanted to change the piston seals on the rear calliper, do I need to split the calliper itself, or can it be done whole?

Cheers
Nick

As for what's getting my goat...... the foccing weather predictions in this country!! How in this day and age can the met office still not have a damn clue what the weather will be like more than 10 minutes ahead??
I'd have better lick flipping a coin than listening to the weather report.

Tonight for example all day we have been forecast 'heavy showers' from 5 till 11. So cancelled our planned ride out with my mates but here I am sat home and not a foccing drop of rain to be had!?

And this is about the 5th or 6th time this month I've either cancelled planned rides for no reason or been caught out in tropical typhoons on 'sunny' days

Honestly.... they couldn't predict night time at sunset the bunch of useless twats

Don't get me started with that lot.
BUT use their app it has a 6 hour historical rain radar so you can make your own weather forecasts with reasonable accuracy and no super computers in sight.

Why has it got a Yamaha rear calliper on it?
Probably for the same reason it has a Yamaha Blue Spot front caliper - so you can stop.
Which is handy.  Not just from a safety point of view, but you may want to stop and pause now and again so as folks can fully appreciate how cool you are.

LOL, I was referring more to the fact that it is Honda and therefore assumed Honda parts would be on it!

Anyone used this 'calimoto' app?
It's actually really good for coming up with impromptu fun routes to ride on. I've only had it a few days so not fully explored it all but seems like it's a brilliant little app for bikers who like to ride without a destination in mind.
Also finds alternative 'twistier' routes for your normal commute (if possible obviously)

Dammit I was going to hold you to that!!

Bought a couple of cheap Chinese "Projector" spotlights on Ebay...stuck them on the FZS600. OK they are cheap and they look cheap, but WOT a difference...! :eek
Now I can actually ride at night.

Have you got an Ebay link?

One other thing, something to place under the sidestand on muddy ground. I use a square of thick stainless with a cord threaded through a hole in one corner. Tie the other end of the cord to the handlebars, so when you're ready to leave the campsite, just pull it up like an anchor, wrap the cord round it and put in the tank bag. Might look a bit weird, but it works. :lol
I carry a plastic one under my seat - think it came free with a bike mag once, they are called side stand pucks. And once you have almost ended up under the bike whilst trying to pick one up you realise how cleaver the little piece of string is.

This is a genius idea, and so true.

I wouldn't worry about the 6/12 sided thing for smaller nuts/bolts they shouldn't be that tight. More of a nice to have thing.

Wankers

Who? The ones who think they're better than they are, who go across there and wipe themselves out? If it's an accident black spot (which it is) they install cameras and then is spoils it for everyone who knows their limits and rides within them.

That’s just natural selection. Doesn’t mean the rest of us should have to suffer

Natural selection if you take the decision to ride/drive like that, what if they then hit an innocent road user?

You should check if something is draining the battery

Will do, which setting do I set the multimeter too or is it just dc volts 20 as per normal?
