Evening all,

Posting on behalf of my Mum. My parents were out in Turkey, but had to cut their visit short, due to Dad's health problems. As a result, she has a very cheap Thomas Cook ticket going spare. The ticket is for 2 passengers, with 1 20kg hold bag. The flight is from Dalaman to Stansted, on the 20th of June, flying with Thomas Cook.

Perfect opportunity to save some ££s on a holiday for you and the missus!  :)

The ticket is £100 (for both people, as it's 1 ticket), and you'll need to pay £35 per passenger for the name change. PM me if interested.

FZS600 Fazer / K&N Double pods
« on: 21 April 2015, 10:37:43 pm »
I was talking to an (arse) Bandit rider planning to cafe racer his bike. He was saying that the Bandits use double pods (see pic below) to get their bikes to run right.

The Bandits would appear to use the same carbs as us - 32mm Mikunis.

Has anyone tried this?

What is the distance between the carbs (will any of the K&N ones fit)?

Cheers!

General / Number plate legislation being introduced
« on: 01 April 2015, 08:55:47 am »
Found this on one of the motorcycle blogs I follow, thought I should share:

"UK motorcyclists will need to display a front number plate from the end of next month onwards, under a subsection of the revised licensing laws. Motorcyclists will need to apply to the DVLA by the 30th of April and purchase an envelope sized sticker (at a cost of £19.95) which they must then affix to the front of their helmets. The Thames Valley Police Commissioner, Anthony Stansfield was quoted as saying: "UK bikers have been getting away with speeding offenses for far too long", and claiming that 61% of motorcycles caught speeding by traffic control and speed cameras escape fines because of a lack of front number plates. Failure to display a front number plate by 15th June will result in an £1,000 fine, and 3 points on your license"

Be warned!

FZS600 Fazer / MT-09 forks?
« on: 30 March 2015, 10:28:57 pm »
Just been having a gander at the MT-09 on MCN - with 41mm forks (like the Fazers), and the 120/70R17 wheel it might be popular in the future for USD mods - or am I missing something?

All Foccers with Gen 1 machines, take action! If not, we're going to get clobbered. I'm guessing this will affect half the couriers too!

General / New bikes
« on: 05 November 2014, 03:29:08 pm »
My god. How ugly are the new bikes being presented this year? How samey?!?

It's a crying shame that there is only one bike that I like the looks of - that's the Ninja HR2. And I mainly like that because it's clearly nuts!

- The Honda RCV - looks like a video game designer's wet dream. WTF is with that exhaust too?

- The new R1. Not bad looking, I kinda like the new shape. But not lust-worthy material

- The new Beemer S1000XR: Multistrada rip off. And the MT-09: another "adventure" bike. Fugly. Same goes for that "Stradale" thing too. And the KTM... (although that last one's a bit unfair, as that's their style)

- That new Guzzi MGX-21. Yeugh. That is all.

The only new, pretty bikes are Aprilia's offerings: The Tuono and RSV. But that's because they've retained most of their shape

In short, there is no new bike that makes me slobber. I'll go back to my issue of Practical Sportsbikes, and slobber over the mechanics the 80s and 90s gave us. FZR1000 EXUP? Yum yum!

General / CNC help required for final year Uni project
« on: 17 October 2014, 05:23:56 pm »
Afternoon Fazer fans!

As some of you may know, I'm an aerospace engineering student. I am now in final year, and heading towards employment - God help us all.  :eek I need some help with my final year project, and I wonder if anyone here can help.

For my final year project, I am working on a remote controlled aeroplane for an international competition: the BMFA Payload 3 Challenge. In essence, the team of four from my University have to design, build, test and compete a RC plane with a 2m wingspan, and carrying up to 4kg of dead weight payload. All powered by a single tiddly electric motor.

To me, the answer is obvious: make it out of carbon fibre. Thanks to my placement, I can make carbon fibre parts and their moulds. However, we need patterns. I'm going to approach several firms to ask for sponsorship for tooling block, but my team needs a CNC shop who can mill the block for us to our CAD models as the Uni's equiment is simply too small. Just to give an idea, each wing will be just shy of a metre long, and will need 2 moulds (and hence 2 patterns) each. We're going for a radical aerodynamic shape with a blended wing and body design, which means we will need comparatively fewer moulds for the entire aircraft.

What I'm looking for is a firm who can sponsor us with the CNC work. We need 10 patterns (8 if I can design the fins symetrically); or if the quality can be assured, and if each pattern can be made full size in one piece, we could skip the pattern stage and go straight to moulds - something that would save my team a lot of time, meny and effort for the same work done by the CNC firm.

If anyone can help, please let me know!  :) We're hoping to have the design finalised by mid November, so we'd be looking at around then for the moulds/patterns.

Likewise, if anyone can help with pre-preg carbon fibre, tooling block or fiberglass and high temp polyester resins, I'd love to know!

Thanks in advance!

For Sale & Wanted / MAYBE WANTED: Cheap bike
« on: 17 June 2014, 10:43:49 pm »
With the head gasket on my Peugeot dodgy, I'm tempted to cut and run: sell it as fast as possible, then replace it with a bike. This depends on cooperative parents on Friday though!!

Just to get a feel for the waters (as it were), has anyone got / know of a reliable, cheap 250cc+ bike up for sale?

General / God, I hate this pile of shite
« on: 17 June 2014, 09:49:44 pm »
I've just spent a fruitless evening under the hood of the Peugeot. The car seems to be trying to overheat, when I stop now after a drive, there's a loud hissing from the front of the engine, and inspection shows it to be coolant making a break for freedom at high pressure from the piepes and the cap of the coolant reservoir. I thought it might be the thermostat causing this build up of pressure. So I get it out, covering myself, the engine bay and the road in coolant in the process. Finally get it sealed back up, put close to 4L of coolant ot replace the stuff that pissed all over the floor, checked the thermostat - the fucker works! So I'm stuck with a problem that no-one seems to know the reason for, not enough money (or motivation, frankly) to put it into the very expensive garage near work, buit living in mortal fear the fucker's going to do a ZX4 on me and blow up.

I fucking hate this car.   :wall :2guns :grumble

On the plus side, big props to Dead Eye who endured 20 minutes of my grumbling incompetence. Top Foccer.  :thumbup

FZS600 Fazer / How hot does the end can get?
« on: 17 June 2014, 01:25:54 am »
As per title. I'd quite like to put carbon caps on my exhausts, but need a rough temperature to work to. They're free flowing, if that makes any difference.

Anyone ever taken the link pipe temp?

Thanks!
