Polite Hi-Viz Vest - Would you wear one?
« on: 24 June 2013, 11:16:08 pm »
Don't know if this topic has been debated before but would anyone wear one of these and do you think these constitute impersonating a Police Officer?
POLITE Hi-VIZ WaistCoat
I am aware that the Met have commented that they are ok to wear but what about other Forces?
Anyone want to chance getting busted  :)

Don't know about getting busted but don't think that you'd get many bikers overtaking you or wanting to play. Kind of takes the fun out of it, don't ya think ?

Na, you wouldn't get busted, it doesn't say Police! They've been selling these to horse riders for a few years now.
You'd probably get a lot of 'wanker' signs from overtaking bikers though. :o
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

It will be OK in the end. If it's not OK, it's not the end.

Lady near me wears one on her 'orse. She had a chequered crash helmet too! Cheeky mare! Made me take notice first time around.

But if it keeps her safe then good luck.

I'm not buying one by the way......just wanted to know what you thought  :D
Nothing against Hi-Viz clothing as, especially at night or in poor visibility, it "can" make you more visible.
Don't wear Hi-Viz stuff myself but I do have an orange(ish) jacket (well more brown now after 6 years) and a white lid. On my white Fazer sometimes cars move over quickly if I sneak up on them, especially on motorways.
There is loads of hi-viz clothing out there and to me if you wear one these, it is not about being visible, but giving the impression you are something you are not........why else would you wear one instead of the basic hi-viz vest....whether on a horse, bike or pushbike???

Those on push bikes have been quoted on noticing cars giving them more space when wearing these so that's why I say leave them to the cyclists!

Nearly there, in Dutch Police is Politie, so could be interesting wearing one up to Assen.

A friend has her bike done up as a Decepticon called Ravage with the "To Punish and Enslave" motto and "In case of emergency call 911" on it. Some jobsworth PCSO tried to tell her that she was impersonating a copper...!  :wall

On the other hand, we've all been there....filtering and that odd car that won't move over. Maybe a quick glance in the mirror spotting the chequered banding may just get them moving over for you....just a thought.
