Today was the Grossglockner in mostly fine, warm sunshine, dry roads:

Heading north tomorrow.

Well, it was yesterday rather than today, but I used the Fazer 1000 to get to work again - 200 mile round trip, mostly down and back up the Fosse Way.

Got absolutely pissed on by torrential rain from Melksham to Bourton on the Water on the way home (over an hour of constant rain). Bike was faultless, great protection with the fairing lowers, waterproofs were "waterproof" and in a perverse way I really, really enjoyed the ride.

Still prefer riding in the sun, but my first really wet journey of the year was fun as well.

Changed the oil and fitted a k and n oil filter with the wee nut :)

Tomorrow I'll rebalance the carbs and reset the idle and the service will be complete for abother season :)

It seems to me that every Fazer FZS 600 owners are often balancing their carbs. I have had my 2003 FZS 600 Foxeye for 3 years and have never balanced the carbatooters, am I being slack on the tooter front or are you lot over keen on getting your fingers grubby.
I understand that you have to have some quite expensive balancing equipment to carry out the task, and is it within the realms of an old fart like me to do this.
The things I have managed without any problems are  replaced rear disk and pads, serviced/cleaned the all 3 calipers, replace the brake pipes for braided Stainless Steel ones, fitted stainless front pipes (That was a bastard as two studs sheared off, but got them both out with extractors) replaced all the exhaust studs with Stainless Steel studs, plus fitted sports can at the same time, fitted fender extender and carbon Rear Hugger.
changed plugs, oil and filter replenished the cooling system with new antifreeze/coolant.
I have never had to do anything to the engine mechanically, apart from service stuff, oh! and a new choke cable. I have done about 10,000 on the bike since I bought it the chain and both sprockets are all in good condition, no hooking of teeth on sprocket and minimal stretch in chain, I replaced the 9 mm front sprocket nut with the 12mm jobby.
I guess what I am trying to say would you imagine balancing the carbs is within my capabilities after reading the above.
and I never mentioned hairdresser cars once. DOH!

I have never balanced carbatooters either, :lol  but I do check the balance of the carburettors when doing the major services.

I had mine done when I first brought it 15 years ago (probably didn't need doing ) and have never touched them since BUT the bike has only done 19k, BUT that is 19k of "Sunday" type riding. I wonder if commuting in crappy traffic has something to do with needing to do them more often.
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

I tend to balance my carbs once a year as I have the carbtune and it doesn't take long to do.  I do about 4k miles in that time and always notice a difference afterwards. I think the carbs go out of balance so slowly you don't notice the gradual increase in vibes.

It is general wear and tear is why the need to be checked. At 19000 miles they wound have very little wear. Would not need to be checked u til 25000 miles when the valves need checking.

Well its seems as if its up for grabs about the CARBATOOTER balancing, some do it every 4K some say not until about 25K, if it helps the bike run a bit smoother by ironing out any little vibs then I feel its worth doing as I do get a very slight buzz through the pegs, its not uncomfortable but noticeable after 80 miles or so, would be nice to lose that.
So what tuning Aids/Brands do you guys recommend and what prices would I expect to have to pay?

My Fazer had an upper cylinder service just before I purchased it (I'm assuming that included valve clearances as they do not rattle excessively)
I will have to dig out the paperwork to find out what that entailed.

reminds me of the story of the guy who took his Honda (Well it would not be a Yammy) to the garage because it was running rough and on collecting it after the repair the guy said to the mechanic what was wrong with it? He was told shit in the carbs, he replied 'does that really help and how often do I have to do it'

Morgan Carbtune - http://www.carbtune.co.uk cost you about £60.

Today was my second ride on my "new to me" Fazer 1000... :) ...just around the A-roads of Devon...
I was feeling pretty good about it as well, until I saw Hedgetrimmer's photos..!  :'( Ha ha!

Nice little blast around the lanes scrubbing in new T30's. Made friends with the local traffic cop and drooled over an MV Augusta. The thing is a work of art. Just look at the detailing on the wheels....Exquisite.

That is a work of art, but imagine trying to clean it if you were daft enough to take it in the rain.

Not overly struck on that. I'd rather a husqvarna nuda or a ktm superduke.  Plus ,Spoked wheels are an invention of the devil and only deserving of cafe racers and supermotos.

Agrees with Toady
Not Stuck on the Gusta, I'm loathed to say it but it does look a bit tarty, especially in PINK. I bet its a bastard to keep that back wheel looking good with chain lube on the white rims.
would be more sense if it was belt drive but alas its chain.Maybe I'm just jealous cos i can't afford one, but then if I had that sort of money I would not be buying the Gusta,
I would spend many many many thousands less and buy a pristine 1000 Gen 1  :D  I just love the 80's/90's Star War looks of the FZS.
That why my baby FZS Foxeye will be with me to the end (Hope that is not prophetic in any way).Imagine being buried sat on your Fazer skid lid and leathers in place not forgetting your glove as you don't want your fingers getting cold, maybe that's a step to far.
