Terrible, terrible news, I thought he was putting the fun back into an otherwise pretty dull motogp season. I went to the qualifying session at Silverstone this year and became a fan of his, seemed like his was a good guy.
A sad end to a very bad week for motoracing.

I am absolutely heart broken - he was the future of the sport with so much talent and heart he made everyone else look bland. A massive loss to the sport

Looks like Rossi's front wheel impacted his helmet and forced off over his forehead. It was a massive hit. Got to wonder if Marco's famous hair wasn't a factory, though.

R.I.P Marco Simoncelli 1987-2011
i just watched the crash again on youtube (this isnt it by the way) i cant understand why he came from the direction that he did. i can only hope he was knocked out straight away when edwards hit him. edwards and rossi had nowhere to go at all,im sure thats no consolation to them though

It is a sad loss.
Wondering if his flambyant BIG hairstyle may be contrubutry to his helmet coming off? Quite possibley. Had he had a shorter cut I think the size of the lid would be considerabley smaller. I can speak from experience as I once had hair like Hendrix but knowhere near as big as Simonchelli's. I got it cut as my helmet always felt loose and was very easy to move on my head. After the haircut the helmet was way too big and I had to buy a new one.
I'm not saying this was the cause but I don't think it helped. The velocity and forces in an accident like that are huge and would have played a big part too. There are also other internal injuries to consider. Only post mortem can determine in more detail what he died of.
P.I.P. Marco

I think being hit in the back of the head with a 150kg bike traveling at 100mph would kill you straight off, helmet or not. The fact that it came off just shows the forces involved. If his lid stayed on he would still be dead anyway. Look at Craig Jones, his crash was similar and his lid stayed on, but same outcome.
I just feel really gutted. He was the reason to watch motoGP.

Shocking news, watched the race this morning and am still stunned.
Not a good week for motorsport with Dan Wheldon and Marco both being taken from us
