Rough Idle
« on: 14 February 2013, 11:00:28 am »
Since dropping the bike last week, I have had a rough idle.

It didnt start immediately, but its gotten worse.

Heres a vid of the idle, I have the baffle out of my can to make it easier to hear. Does this sound normal?

Sounds ok to me. Maybe after the fall, you might be homing in on things that wouldn't have caught your attention before the fall???

If you still not happy, maybe a few things to check or do would be maybe empty the float bowls as you may have dislodged some dirt at the bottom of the tank and it could have gotten into your carbs. Might be time to give you carbs a balance too. Also, check that the TPS didn't move in the spill. Can't see anything else that would give a rough idle after a spill. Oh...check your plugs too. You might have fouled them trying to start the bike after the spill. I would take it for a good spin before all that, it might need a good run.

Sounds very much like mine but then again I've got nothing to compare it against!  There's a lot of dur dur dur d-d-d-d dur dur with a rising/lowering note

Cylinder 3 when sitting on the bike L-->R warms up much slower than the rest, I think I need to get a carbtune.

Can anyone post a proper idle vid?

To be honest I don't think there's much difference in tempo, yours sounds a lot brighter but that's probably mic/exhaust etc.

It sounds like a better version of my xj600:

1991 Yamaha XJ600 rough idle

This bike is nearly unridable at low revs around town, hunts and stutters constantly.

Ouch...sounds like it's constantly on the verge of stalling, your 600 sounds a lot better.
