Oil
« on: 03 February 2013, 08:03:59 am »
Can anyone advise?

Collecting my first Fazer 1000 tommorow, and first job will be to drop the oil and filters, and remove side casings, rub down and respray. Now I have some
Putoline and Motorex 10 50w fully synthetic oil, could this be used? And what spray would you recommend for the side cases.
Cheers

Hi Tilts. Most motorcycles don't need fully synthetic oils and 10/50 is more like the kind of oil you use in cars. Yamaha recommend 10/40 semi. I'd stick with that because fully synthetic can lead to massive oil consumption later on.

CHanging oil is for pussies.

However, if you are a wimp that does actually change oil in his bike:

mineral oil good, semi-synth better, full synth (bike specific) the best.  If you're selling bike in a year or two, use whatever you like, if you intend to keep the bike, use the best.
Most things done in a hurry need to be done again - patiently.

Cheers guys, only reason for asking is that I have about 15 litres of fully that I use on my Off Roaders...I think the previous owner has been using semi 10 40, probably best to stick with what he's been using.
