report a black cab?
« on: 30 January 2013, 05:49:37 am »
Does anyone know where or how I can report a black cab? Had an arsehole over take me and cut me up just before a island.

Before you ask, yes I was recording, as I always do  :lol

I know a few people who go directly to the company, but I don't know who "Black Cabs" work for.

Black cabs are often self employed. The police or the public carriage office (part of TFL) are the ones to talk to.

just in case you do take this to the feds becareful as the bike infront of you goes around the traffic island on the wrong side of it so could also land them in trouble!

not defending the cab in anyway

did he make you brake or alter your course in any way?
did you exceed the speed limit re-taking him?
your reaction whilst understandable, was totally wrong. if the driver is driving unpredictably, putting yourself alongside is possibly not the best thing to do!
the driving of the cab was poor, but from the video i didn't see it as 'dangerous' or illegal.

I would say the cab took his safety zone, so yes, he created a need for Lewis to slow down to maintain distance.

I do agree tho, the overtake and "buzz" past was just inviting trouble, creating danger for no gain.

Ok, yes he shouldn't have passed you like that, but then blasting up past him wasn't a good move, especially since it looks like your clocks show you exceeding the limit.

Oh, and the bike in front of you appears to overtake going the wrong size of an island to pass the cab in front, so that's two pieces of evidence that you wouldn't want Uncle William to see...!

I'd suggest just positioning assertively in "Track 2" (ie the outside wheel track) instead of Track 1 as you and the bike in front are doing at times during that clip, to prevent this happening again.

just edit the video BEFORE you present to the police and only include the cab cutting you up

The lead bike DOESN'T  go the wrong side although it looks close.
I agree your reaction isn't great and also learn to ride defensively ie towards the centre of the road.

Skipper, the lead bike does go the wrong side at about 20seconds into the video.

Thats what I was thinking as bikers have to endure a lot worse than that. You overtook him and did nothing which was even more of a surprise.....wankers hand signal at him is at least a must.

Why not trace the cab, show him the footage and then bribe him for free cab rides :) Problem solved.

I cant say much bout the legality of it all but taxi drivers think they own the road in my experience ...when they clearly should realise bikers do  8)

Must admit the comments on the recording made me laugh  :rollin

+1 on taxi drivers owning the road. Normally a law unto themselves IME. Come down hard on the bad ones as often as you can and reprt em, got nothing to lose if you ask me. The video footage can't realistically drop you in any trouble. Not enough evidence.

is it me, or are bikers going soft? in all 3 videos i saw nothing more than i see when i'm riding around.   No1, taxi clip is nothing more than a typical taxi driver. it wasnt done maliciously, just an impatient guy. no 2 and no 3 clips is what i expect drivers to do. they do it all the time, get used to it. thats why i ride defensively. i try and predict what drivers will do. i have never had a serious accident, i've never had a near-death experience (but watch this space!), i dont hang around so i'm not a plodder.

the cab does drive half on the other side of the road over double white line and a chevron box

But it's not a solid double white line, nor is there a solid white line around the chevron box, so it's not actually illegal.
