2001 (51 plate) gold, silver & black
« on: 10 January 2013, 11:38:24 pm »
Hello everyone,
Apologies for possibly a silly question... I have bought my first bike this week it's a 2001 fazer, gold, black and silver. As you can imagine its very addictive reading all the posts and reviews online about fazers. I have seen a few places showing the colours available in 2001 and mine isn't on them. Just for peace of mind a 51 plate fazer in hold silver and black is perfectly normal/ legitimate?
Cheers,
Will

Maybe it's from a year before and didn't get sold, the number plate is when the bike was registered not built I believe, but someone with more knowledge about it may come along and tell you?
Some songs are very very long, but this one isn't !

Welcome to the club Wallen.
I agree with Jc72. Mine is shown as a 2002 bike on the reg document, because that's when it was first registered, but it is definitely a 2001 model.
From the link that darrsi shows it looks like yours is a 2000 model.
Enjoy it  :) .

Thank you everyone, I have established it is a 2000 model registered in 2001, thank you for your help!! One more thing...again it may sound silly but is it worth putting some of that redex stuff Just because it says it cleans carbs?
Thanks

:lol  That's the sort of question that can promote a long and sometimes heated debate on here.
My opinion for starters is, I wouldn't bother.

Yeah, agreed, Redex won't do any harm, but i've never really felt that it's done any good either?

When I was a lady you did redecorated and got clouds of white smoke and it looked like it did something.

I redexed my Vitesse a few years ago with "modern"  redexed and no smoke :-\

I don't think it does anything now.......

If it looks like this it is a 2000 model registered in 2001

Redex would be a waste of money in a bike in regular use.

That's the one in the picture! Thanks again for helping! There is a group of 5 of us now planning a trip to France in September! I have noticed another thing with the bike, the carb rubber boots have surface splits in then but not the whole way through, is this a common thing? I did just check how much they would be to replace and someone on eBay wants £140 for four rubber carb boots!!

I presume you mean the ones betwee the carbs and the cylinder head.
M&P have a full set for half that price.
What mileage is on the bike?
Check the caps on the Vacuum take off points as they fall apart but look ok. They perish much sooner than the intake rubbers.
Where in France are you going to go to?
Watch for the triangular boxes mounted on a tripod about a metre high with a cable runing back to the gap in the fence on the motorways They are actually manned speed traps which will snap your bike front and back and the Gendarme will be waiting at the toll both. The first time I saw one I slowed down to see what it was and saw the gendarme sitting in their car looking very smug. A merc passed at what looked like more than 100 mph. When I passed through the toll booth later he was being arrested and put in the back of a Police car.

Bike mileage is 19,000 I've decided to just leave it until there are performance issues! Thank you everyone for your help!
France in September is going to be northern as we've only got a week, starting to look for luggage and looking at the Oxford first paniers any word what there like?
Cheers
