Don't cut them 'til you've tried them. I took advice and cut mine down, then wish I hadn't; I've ended up resting on the bar-ends a lot of the time!
Remember, you can always take more off, but you can't add it back on!

plus 1 for not cutting anything off untill you have tried them. I have a throttle grip  fitted for motorway trips and often end up steering the bike from the bar ends (I have the original bars) as I find a wider position more comfortable. See how you feel before cutting anything off.........

I cut 10mm from each end on mine.

I did quite a lot of research on this Forum a number of years back. I also fitting a set of GYTR Lowers.

Collectively giving sportier handling ;-)

Too long for my liking so fram memory I did about 20mm each end and then tapped the bars to take the original bar ends.

Now that's what I call trolling ...  :lol

It's probably more accurate to say that 20mm off each end (40mm total) is the most you can remove without running into problems with the switchgear position relative to the initial bend in the bar.

I have shoulders like a pre-war Tizer bottle (with short arms and long pockets  ;) ) so I find the 20mm option works best for me. 

Burly chaps may prefer the wider size.

well fitted the bars this w/e, about 10mm protruding from the grips.
so if fitting the original barends it looks like 20mm to cut or flush if using oberons.
to be fair i did 30+ miles to find the right position for the bars/levers and didn't have any buzz through the hands even without any damping!
it's nice to do a full lock turn without trapping the thumbs now :lol

Been away all weekend and not been able to fit mine yet, or ride the bike since last Tuesday for that matter!  :'(
 
Might do this on the sly one evening after work, we have indoor lit space so if I hang around I should be able to get this done, next weekend looks to be full up for me already with sorting the garden, painting the shed and 15 fence panels!   :eek
