Price of "Rocket" fuel

Noticed the cost of Shell unleaded has been steadily rising the last couple of weeks-it was 137.9ppl yesterday in Birmingham. If I was a cynic I might think it was to exploit the late summer bank holiday motorists/riders, but they wouldnt do a thing like that would they?

I just drove past 3 petrol stations in Lancaster with prices OVER £1.40. One of them was £1.43!!!!!!!!!!


I was on empty but was determined not to fill up until I found someone under £1.40

I saw diesel over £1.50 on the M1 last week

Seems to happen before every govt increase that the stations creep the price up then when the govt date arrives they add on the "official" amount.

Weird, yesterday I passed the local station and it was 139.9, today it's 134.8

So maybe it's inching down again.

But if those Israeli nutters attack Iran, well god knows what will happen to the price, not to mention supplies.

Supply is only just keeping up with demand.

Dunno, it was 129.9 3 or 4 months ago on the A2, now up to 134.9

Same garage as I mentioned in 1st post now 138.9ppL. And Ive always wondered about the bloody .9. No other retailer uses this-do they really think it looks cheaper than 139ppL?

It looks cheaper, 138 is cheaper than 139.  Same reason things are £9.99 instead of £10, for example, in shops.

No, but it looks cheaper than 140ppl just like pricing things at £99.99 tries to avoid the crucial £100 psychological barrier.

I've noticed on that Petrol Prices site that the garage next to the Asda superstore is now pricing at 135.7ppl so it appears at the top of the list above those who are charging 135.9ppl as if that 0.2 of a penny per litre really makes a difference!

Going to have to fill my car up today and I'll be lucky to get change from £100 so putting £25 in my bike seems good, I must be mad. Who remembers <£1 per GALLON and moaned when it went up above a £1.

The other reason for the 99p stuff is that the cashier pretty much has to open the till to give change and therefore record the transaction....stops those sticky fingers etc.

Yes I understand the £9-99 instead of £10 thinking. Goes back to the days of "Arkwrights" till. so the shop assistant had to ring up the sale & give change. Also £9-99 is a REAL price whereas .9 of a penny is not even a legal amount. OK so I go and purchase 1 litre of Shell unleaded & hand over £1 & 39pence and cut 1/10 of a penny coin off & hand over the remaining 9/10. Ah you say -they wont sell you 1Litre so I buy 4Litres and hand over £5 & 59p & .6p! Its not a REAL price theyre advertising so how can it be legal? It only works for multiples of !0 Litre purchases. I know- why dont I get a life! But nobody else does this to my knowledge & how many people really think 139.9 is cheaper than 140?   Does anyone think we are going to be paying   £1-50 a Litre soon?

Yes Dave48, it surely will be £1.50 soon (or £149.9).  And I'd never even thought about those prices being illegal - I'm sure you're right!
 
Grahamm - I used that petrol-price website    yesterday and the difference between filling my car up at garages in my immediate area was £9!!!!! There's no way I'm gonna just throw £9 away like that. Okay, so the price difference when filling a bike up isn't that much, but it's still £3 every time. Why pay more for fuel that is already heavily laden with tax?

Went in Tesco's a while back and unknown to me I'd pumped £20.01p by mistake. I handed the woman on the till a twenty I had ready and she said;  'Another 1p please" In some garages they have a box on the counter for random coins to cover this sort of thing but Tesco don't. Well I fecked and faffed about trying to find some change in my waterproofs and eventually gave her a 2p piece to which she said;

"Well a penny seemed so important a minute ago so yes I'd better have it." I said.


She looked at me in disgust and said "A simple yes would have sufficed"
