I've just got how much MPG?!!
« on: 16 August 2012, 08:38:05 am »

Wanted to share; Just filled up after a few days commuting down the A64 to york, covered 172 miles with an average of 64.68 MPG :eek :D 8) !! And I didn't think I was going particularly slow!

Very impressed with the Fazer, cheap to run and fun, loads better than the train.

...Oh Yeah!

Yes, it's a pretty economical bike to run (unless you write for a bike magazine), but it's hard to get an accurate figure over that short a distance... variations in when you notice the fuel light come on or a slight difference in where you fill to has a big effect.
Like many on here I've taken to using the Fuelly website. I use the rolling last-ten-fill-ups figure as a guide to the current fuel consumption... over that sort of distance the individual variations average out nicely. With the "chart all fuelups" graph you can see the difference temperature makes over the course of a year. :)

I usually get 50+ but I only do 4miles to work. I'm thinking maybe I should move further away from work to save money :lol

I tend to do 58-61 on mine, 60 miles each way to work.  35ish of that is nsl DC and one end is in central London so it seems fairly good to me :)

I got 65 mpg a couple of times on my commute but that's sticking to 70-75. At 90 it drops to 57-59 so I figure, what the hell, go with the flow!

nice to know how much I can push it! I'd be happy with 55-60 to be honest. Don't find 90 that comfortable for the 20 min on the a64. 70 is a bit easier!

I only had the Fazer a couple of weeks, filled up the first time put in £19.30 which was full but on the side stand and only got 141 miles before the fuel light came on. Refuelled with it on the center stand and funny as it only took £19.00 of fuel this time to completely fill up and this time it was 186 miles before the fuel light came on.

Only difference was first time round it was a mix of town and DC but mainly town, second fill up was more high speed DC. I'm happy with that considering I was using a 250cc for local stuff going to town and that and I worked it out as the fuel tanks were the same size that the 250cc was actually using more fuel than the Fazer.  :eek

I use my Fazer mainly for commuting between Rotherham and Chesterfield, 60mile round trip mixture of dual carriageways and urban roads, occasionally use motorway.  I have done 4k miles this year and brim the tank on the centre stand every time,  the lowest that I have got is 59mpg and max 62mpg which i think is good cos am not dawdling along.

Curious about the 19inch neck comment.  Is it me or do these bikes suffer from a lot of buffeting?
On the motorway, anything more than gentle breeze and the airflow from the lorries, vans etc makes it feel like riding in a tumble drier!!!

Seriously thinking of getting rid cos of this as i need to either do motorway or fast dual carriageway to get to work.

I find the same Yorkie... Although its lessened a bit with mine having a double bubble screen. Plus if I tuck in a bit going along at say 75/80 it clears the chin of my helmet and doesn't buffet as much.

I imagine if I was much taller it wouldn't be comfortable... I'm 6foot

I get the wind from the top of my chest and arms and the lids well in the wind normally. This is with the double bubble screen that came with the bike, from previous comments on the site I don't think the double bubble makes much difference.

Sure, under 60- 70 it's fairly smooth but over that it gets windy. You should try the same speed on a naked Bandit which I had form the insurance company for 4 months when the last bike got wrote off. The buffeting started somewhere around the crotch region,,,,

Double bubble helped a bit with mine, changing to a Shoei helmet made a big difference though, lot less wind noise now. I do wear earplugs also.Old helmet was a Shark S700 S.

I've got a Shark S900, must be the helmet as well.  Lots of wind noise, I use ear plugs, over 50 can't hear engine at all but can still hear wind.

Will have to look at  helmet reviews and maybe swap it.
