Best way forward
« on: 10 August 2012, 11:31:14 am »
Time for some changes and your input/advise would be much appreciated.. 95% solo riding 5% with a pillion, solo riding normally in attack mode or waiting to attack mode.
Issues, lack of low down grunt (handy when a pillions on), occasional snatch when accelerating hard out of conrners, massive vibes through bars and rear pegs 4 - 5500 rpm (might have to live with this one), needs better brakes, pogos occasionally
Brakes - braking wavey disks and hell lines with sintered pads, been there before and they are ace
Low down power and snatching options, number one priority and where my money will go first. Fit an FCE yes or no and where would I get one fitted ( I live near Derby but dont mind travelling). Can and no map/ can and powercommander/ can, powercommander and no exup/any other options.
Suspension options??
I dont need to reinvent this stuff you guys and girls have done this stuff succesfully and maybe unsucesfully so all halp and advice mucho appricaited

an FCE will help enormously, but the gen2 engine will never be " grunty"...swop ur gearbox sprocket down 1 cog  helps too.

best check the US site, cos they have done so much more gen2. TBH this site is mostly gen1 mods or general mods for all fazers. you could try PM ing Dek, who has done loads to his gen2.

suspension - well there are loads of aftermarket options, I have used K tech ( near coalville) and many have used Nitron.

The very first thing to do is also just about the cheapest

Replace your Gen2 stock 17T front sprocket with a 16T from a Gen1 Fazer 1000
Fit an FCE yes or no and where would I get one fitted
Think you find most people fix the FCE themselfs
I also fitted mine myself

There a Great link on how to fit the FCE here http://fazerowners.yuku.com/topic/2481/FCE-install-lots-of-pics

Your symtoms sound like a slack chain to me. I'd check that before hammering the credit cARD.

What about the
1= airbox mod, taking out the snorkel bit,
2= fit hi-flow air filter,
3=trim the sub throttle plates.

All these are written and on you tube as a way of helping the low down pull on the throttle,but from riding mine it seems if you want raw power then use slightly higer revs, then the engine puls hard.

So the 16 tooth front sprocket seems a good option,,alters  the drive by 5.8%, so slightly lower geared.

Has any one done any of these modifications to their FZ1 gen 2 on this site?

I fitted the FCE and the smaller sprocket , but it still dont pull like the gen1. If you examine the power curve of the gen2, not a great deal happens till 7 k rpm, so its always going to be a major battle to make it " grunty"...its a sportsbike engine, its character will always be there.Dek has spent over £3k modding his, which is  a lot, and I dont know if it actually has made that much difference to low down grunt..plenty of top end mind.

Well supposedly the engine on the FZ1 gen 2 has a different cam to the R1,how i am not sure,but no bolt on mods will change this.

I am going to do the air box mod and flies trim along with the k+n , then maybe the fce, that one sounds like a good mod,just for smooth roll on roll off throttle.
