FZ1s pillion setting for standard shock
« on: 18 June 2012, 01:41:05 pm »
Folks looking for a starting point here, I bought the fazer with the idea of inticing the good lady onto the back of it, since she wasn't a fan of the previous K12s.

I've got a descent setup for solo (all recorded on >>this<< handy wee doc I made up) but would appreciate what others settings are for 2 up riding no luggage or very little luggage, so I've a leg up on getting it tuned in

cheers

I would guess two up with luggage pretty much maximum preload both ends.

Nice chart by the way, copied it and intend to use it as I'm mucking about with mine at the moment!

At the risk of asking a rude question, what weight are you and what settings do you use for solo riding?

Front preload 5 rebound/compression standard

rear preload 1 rebound standard

the rear preload seems very low but the bike sits fine and as far as I know its the standard spring

Standard rear preload should be no3 (rider only) and with pillion I set mine to 5 and go up 2 clicks on rebound. I'm about 13 stone, my missus a bit (don't go there!) less. Setting it softer makes it rock back and forth like a boat when braking/accelerating. Experiment yourself is the best, depends on the weight being carried. Also Google 'yamaha fz1 manual pdf ' and there's loads of info there.
