Red was only available in the 2001 line-up, IIRC.  So yes, 2001 model registered later. :)

Mine was red on an 02 plate. Seen quite a few of the same colour on 02 as well.

The 01's didn't sell that well when they were launched so possible they are all late regs.

Main point is that there are no mechanical differences between 01 and 02 anyway.

The year/date a bike is registered is irrelevant to it's 'MODEL YEAR'!

Both myself & a friend have the exact same bike & there both on '02' plates, they are clearly just 'LATE' registered bikes.
To identify the model year there should be a small white sticker on the rear of the frame were the the seat catch is which will start 5LV-?? The 5LV is the 01-03 model the later bikes will start 1C2-?? Im fairly certain the later 1C2's DONT have a headlight switch in the right hand switchgear (there permanently on) and they had a variation of different colour schemes & black frames.

I think the 03 model year onwards had the tuning fork logo instead of the word yamaha on the tank aswell :)

Mine is an 03 and it doesn't have a headlight switch, lights are perm. on 8)

i wouldn't worry about the model, just be happy that you have the best colour combination in red bodywork, grey frame and silver engine. lush!

i wanted a red'n' but ended up with my black'n'.
is it clean enough?
