Hardly old school. It's got discs, indicators and injection for starters. :lol

Oh yeah I know it's not actually old.... it's a brand new triumph Haha but I just think it's cool that the picture could have been taken last week or 30 years ago and it would still pretty much look the same.
I know it's a facade but it's just got that 70s cool vibe to it

I stopped off at Asda in Barnstaple on my way to Croyde for a surfing holiday recently and there was a guy there with a Royal Enfield.

I commented about it being a classic, but, to my surprise, he said it was only a couple of years old, he'd imported it from India where they still made them!

Royal Oilfield is quite well established in the UK with plenty of dealerships. They've recently brought out two 650 twin Interceptor models.

I may have misunderstood him, I thought he said he'd imported it, but maybe he just said it was imported.

PS "Royal Oilfield"? Auto cucumber strikes again...? ;)

No Royal Oilfield is what they were called back in the day, because of the pool of oil they left behind after being parked. Unlike oiltight Triumphs, Beezas and Nortons :rolleyes .

Will the nine T boxer and the other remaining air cooled engined bikes survive the new Euro 5 regulations?
Would not be cool to see them killed off :(

I dont think Euro 5 is political really. It's more just legislation that affects all of us buying or riding new vehicles 🤓🤓

And more the VNAs point I cant see it wiping the engine out completely. It'll just mean more investment will be needed into the development of said engine to make it fit the mold thus increasing costs to us....... definitely not cool 👎

I suppose there’s pros and cons.
It’s gonna be interesting to see how the car and bike markets evolve over the next few years.
2020 is going to see far greater choice in the electric car market.
Small 125cc bikes and mopeds might turn to batteries.
For bigger bikes,ie longer distances I don’t see electric working well yet.

What we are already seeing, and going to see more of, is variable valve timing.  I’d say that’s a good thing.  I was well impressed by the R1250R I tested.  Just a shame I can’t get my hands on one right now, that is unless I pay for endless pointless options.

Turbos and superchargers.  We are going to see more of these.

Interesting article here;
https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/features/bikes/euro-5-emissions-what-they-mean-to-motorcycles
As for the politics;
Quote
You might think that a piece of EU legislation is relevant only on that continent, but European emission rules are fast becoming the closest thing we have to a worldwide standard. Massive international bike markets including India and China also base their legislation on Europe’s emissions limits, and Japan also aligned itself with Euro 4 back in 2017.

It is not just in the automotive sector that EU legislation is becoming global.   EU legislation and standards are fast becoming global standards across many sectors.

The UK has influenced and shaped these EU/Global standards.  Soon we will be left with no influence whatsoever with respect to new legislation/standards but will have choice but to comply.

Politics over.

The issue apparently for air cooled engines is temperature stability.

It strikes me that to make a bike 'cool' you take a perfectly good machine and make it less comfortable, practical and often more ugly. Whoever decides these things won't be anyone who's opinion I care about (yes I know people don't care about my opinion either). I'm quite happy to be uncool  :)

Cheers

Not at all John that's the idea of this thread... everyone's opinion is on what's cool is different and it's good to see.
Stick up a pic of your vision of a cool bike... let's see what floats your boat :lol

I,m with you mate along with the ability to NOT go around corners - definitely NOT a cool trate in a bike. Most to me look like bastard Frankenstein of a machine built in a shed.
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
