Foxeye 600 Selling help
« on: 23 July 2019, 08:50:55 pm »
So I am looking for a bit of forum help again.

I have just been made redundant out of the blue. I only bought the Fazer last year for the commute to this job so I am thinking I will need to sell it now but I have no clue what to ask for it.

It is a 2003 Foxeye 600 in silver. It had covered 20,000 miles when I bought it last August, it is now on 29,000 miles. In the time I have owned it I have serviced it with all genuine parts (plugs, air filter, oil filter etc), added Oxford heated grips and in the last month it has had a new DID chain and JT sprockets and a new rear tyre. It has a 50 litre top box, a scotoiler and a Yamaha double bubble screen as well as a Lextek slip on exhaust (marked from the bike drop) as well as the original one. It has crash bungs and a rad guard on it as well.
It has at times been dropped on both sides (stationary ones) small crack in the nose cone and various marks on the fairings and tank. Mechanically it is sound and starts first time everytime... question is, what should I ask for it? I know lowish mileage ones are hard to come by and it has had money spent on it lately.

Prices are all over the place at the moment. Good low mileage ones like this have been advertised from £1200-2600. I have no idea if they actually sold at the higher prices though. Ratty ones are priced from £800-1500. Again I dont know if they get the advertised price or not.
Its a tough time of year to sell too as most people now have the bikes for the summer. Hopefully you will find another job quickly and keep the bike for fun of not for commuting on.
Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again

Just a couple of points to add to the above:

1. What you can get is likely to depend on where you're trying to sell. The ULEZ in London has had an effect on the saleability/value of older bikes there and may have a similar effect in and around other cities with similar proposals.

2. Extras like the topbox don't add value unless the buyer really wants it. You may well get the same price for the bike without it and then sell it separately and make a few extra quid. If I were a buyer I'd rather see things like braided lines and a new shock, knowing that the OE items are getting on a bit.

Even the small crack to the fairing will put some buyers off, unless it's a really easy repair, the same with the marks from the drops, so be prepared for some haggling.

Yeah all good points, people will still want it all even though the bike is 16 years old! Although it does already also have a Nitron shock and stainless steel downpipes as well so thats 2 more problem areas already addressed.
Think I will give her a bit of a clean tomorrow and see how it goes.

Everyone said a while back that £1000 was about as low as they'd go and then ratty ones ended up going for 600-800....i'd say £1000 is realistic for yours Stuart.

Mine is on 38k miles but is immaculate with no damage and in the fastest tri colour red and an R6 shock.....i'd value mine at £1000....i give yous the same value due to the lower mileage but with some damage.

Hope that helps

I dont agree, looking at what they have sold for recently but thanks for your input. I would not sell it for £1000 I would keep it.., the parts put on it in
the time I have had it are over £600!
There is only one on Bike Trader nationally at £1000 and that is nowhere near as good as mine. I will see what happens, not that desperate for money yet!

I wouldnt jusdge what others are advertising at, as mentioned it does not relate to how much they will actually go for. I paid £1200 for mine 2 years ago, in theory it would be advertised around £1400.

If you already know what the bike is worth to you then theres your answer already. It will sell at any price within reason it might just take longer.

Good luck though, shame to hear of the circumstances.

I sold my old 2003 one for £1150 earlier this year. It had 64k ish on it, a little drop damage, but brand new fairing & decals. But, it was immaculately serviced, Hel braided lines front back, recent new genuine clutch, uprated FZS1000 rear brake caliper, recent Brembo rear disc, Hagon shock, posher comfort seat, Givi Rack (no box), double bubble screen, huggers, year old chain/sprocket and 6 month old tyres with loads of life in them. I was also in London and just before ULEZ charge hit.

Don't expect much value from accessories. Big ticket service items sorted out are plus points. £1000 may be cutting yourself short, £1500 maybe achievable if the right person wants it. I'd expect some haggling down to £1250 ish.

Don't want private details, but would you be happy to share the approx price band that it sold for, e.g. £1000-£1500, £1500-£2000 etc ?

It seems like it sold pretty quickly, so it doesn't seem as though it was difficult to sell !
