Race gearing. 1 up 5 down
« on: 19 May 2019, 09:16:26 pm »
Hi there

Looking for a salutation to turning my gear linkage by 180 degrees. Also known as race gearing or GP. The issue being the arm goes through the frame. Is the a adapter you can buy?
Reason for wanting to change is I race another bike that has race gearing. Once I get on the fazer I always put it in 2nd first time after a race and I like the race gearing.
Any help or links would be much appreciated

I did this for my YZF750 track bike. Easy to do, by simply flipping the splined clamp on the selector shaft. It changes the angle of the linkage arms but has the desired effect of 1-up, 5-down.
You can’t do this on a Fazer1000, because, as you correctly mention, the linkages go through a channel in the frame, and any changes to linkage arm routing cannot be accommodated.
If you do find a way (other than a major mechanical mod), I’d be happy to hear it.

I have managed it on my 04 R1, made a pivot mount that goes b3hind the side stand bolts, pivoted the shift lever front facing back.
