I have just learned from the FZS600 section that a 6 sided socket is less likely to round off a nut. Never knew that

I will be fitting a new chain and sprocket set and I have the sizes I need but they are all 12 points

So I am going to invest in a few for the

rear wheel / sprocket nut/ and a 14 and 17mm. Are these Draper ones a waste of money https://www.toolstation.com/12-drive-6-point-socket/p52746. If so any recommendations of something better.

Draper's ok, but Halfords do a lifetime guarantee, or certainly did when I bought a big 3/8" drive set from them.

The thing is Halfords do not do 3/8 or 1/2 inch sockets in 6 point from what I can see they are all 12 piont except for a few extra deep sockets

I got fed up with having to switch between two different socket sets (one which had 3/8" drive and the other which had 1/2" drive). Both also had 12 point sockets which had already rounded off a couple of nuts

Never given it any thought.
Just checked my socket sets, Bacho and Teng, all 6 point.

I always buy 6 point hex sockets. Can't see any advantage to 12 point other than it will fit on the nut/bolt head quicker.

I sort through boxes of sockets and tools at car boot sales. You'd be amazed what gems turn up at those places for bargain prices if you've got the patience to sift around crouched down on the floor.

A lot of people clearing a garage out don't know the difference between Snap On and Super Savers own brand

Can't remember what I paid for them, but just in case there's any deals going on Impact Sockets are 6 sided and are mega strong.

That's a beauty, such a shame we use these tools few and far between but so nice to have the correct tools when you really need them!

I do like Bacho stuff. Going to see what my local "Patel" motofactors have in stock. But I think it will be a 14mm for the rear sprocket nuts (still expecting a curfuffle there ) and a 27mm for the rear ( it deserves it ) and a 32 for the mother of all nuts - the front sprocket nut with a 24 inch breaker bar.
I already have the all the sockets needed but are all 12 point nut rounders.

Yep, Bergen's fine. I've got various tools made by them. Maybe not a professionals choice but ideal for the diyer. Added bonus being impact compatible.

Just found it for £18 so that set is looking good so far as it will do the swing arm/ rear wheel and right up to the 32mm front sprocket.
What makes them impact standard and would my 18v cordless dewalt impact driver work.

If you need a torque wrench, this covers a lot of stuff on the bike, it’s compact, comes calibrated and should last the DIYer a life time, at not an unreasonable price.
You can get it in 3/8 or ½ inch drive.

Thanks I am ok for torque wrenches. I have a Halfords 8 - 60 in 3/8 and a Draper 1/2 inch 60-200

I wouldn't worry about the 6/12 sided thing for smaller nuts/bolts they shouldn't be that tight. More of a nice to have thing.
