I bought my fazer in early october having owned a VTR1000 firestorm for 1 month which was a nice bike in good nick cost a grand  and sounded awesome but the fuel economy was truly shocking even on a 70-80mph ride to work it would only manage 120miles to a full tank, i couldnt get on with the snatchy throttle and severe engine braking so i sold it for this!!I bought it for £900 more than i wanted to pay as the front fairing was cracked scratched and generally scruffy but i need a bike fast to go to work.


The first time i rode the bike in the dark coming back from work i realised the headlight was cack so i dropped the lumiled H4 bulb i had in the VTR i was an instant improvement but that meant riding with full beam on all the time.
I bought another lumiled H1 bulb but it wouldnt fit in the apeture.

Bugger!!
So back in december just before i emigrated to lithuania i sold the complete front end for £100 and decided to streetfazer it.
Now i did like the original fairing it was retro cool but the woeful headlight made me realise it was a good decision i wasnt going to throw silly money at some retrofit labs projectors on a £900 bike
I realise some of you may think i've butchered a perfectly clean bike but this is the best side (still with dent in tank and scratches on engine cover) the other side was bad, plus i wanted a project bike if a wanted to buy a perfect bike that just needs oil and petrol I could go buy one, but  that would take away the enjoyment of going to the garage and playing away from the wife and teapot lids.

in need of a deep clean
The pistons were not pitted and all 4 pistons popped out equally with compressed air on both calipers, i havent changed the seals, that maybe a good or a bad thing but for the time being i'll just red grease them.

I've bought some wezmoto braided brakes hoses (race ones for front) and rear one as wellThese have been complimented with some EBC sintered pads

I have soldered the wires and heatshrinked them to stop problems further down the line

ok so its not the original fairing (which i liked) but the yellowbelly headlight is far superior than the original fazer one, i will fit some LED's into it when i can.

i made a new clock bracket out of an alloy plate it's not finished yet this may be scrapped in favour of another method we'll see.its not fastened down to anything yet as i need to make sure all the cable routing and the clocks will fit in the fairing for a clean look

As you can see from the next picture, some new goodies all the way from our fliends in china -new blars - glips - l evers - (spot on for the money) - mirrors - lisers - i did buy some new slitchgear to replace the weathered 18 year old ones but sadly the std fazer ones seem to have more wires

as it stands for now, got a belly pan to have sprayed and fitted, new rear brakes, paint swinging arm gloss black to match the frame, and get rid of that fugly rusty horn for a nice steibel nautilus :)considering making a solo seat cowl out of fibreglass myself  :D we'll see how that goes :lol

I brought a proper seat cowl but it just looked wrong, made the back look fat and it always looked like something just bolted on - which it was.
Mines a black bike and the cowel was black, maybe it would look better on a different colour bike to match the paintwork. Or your own design.   
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

Ive seen the TCP ones if thats what you had?]I think i'm going to DIY one and see how it goes if it looks cack then its just a few quid and a bin, then a major headache will buy an R7 seat unit.

just updating a little bit so i thought i was going to have the bike a satin matt blue colour, unfortunateley that cannot happen as i need to take the bike for the equivilent of an MOT before  i can register it here in lithuania, and i've drained all the petrol out of the tank to have it painted.
So that would mean having to put all the plastics back on putting some juice in her, then go 2km to the MOT station then go register it as silver bike, drain all the fuel back out take all plastics off again have them sprayed blue then back to register it as a blue bike.It's too much foccin around so decided to keep it silver but go for a satin matt silver instead of the glossy silver.
The black wheels were past their best and it seems yamaha put just 1 coat of black paint over the alloy, so I decided to have the wheels resprayed in gunmetal metallic grey gloss, for sure powder coating is stronger but the nearest powder coaters to me is a 3.5 hr drive so i've canned that idea
Plus the guy im using did some car wheels for me a few years ago sandblasted them all painted and refitted tyres and balanced them all in for about 150 eur so it's a no brainer to have it done by him 50 euros (sandblasted/painted/tyres refitted/and balanced) happy days.
I've cleaned up the front discs which were in suprisingly good condition (not scored heavily or worn out)  and given the centre a spray with metallic black.

The rear brake is a different story altogether the disc is not in a very bad shape but it's scored, as for the caliper it's filthy never been cleaned or serviced and the dust seals are poking out from behind the pistons so it looks like a full rebuild before i can hook up the braided line and bleed them.

Been spraying the exhaust flage nuts with WD40 over the last few weeks and all exept 2 are loose just the 2 foccers you need a 1/4 drive ratchet and long extention to get out .... then hopefully plain sailing, i'd like a new stainless set of headers but a 3 euro sandblast and some high temp paint will save me some dosh for either a 1000 rear shock with uprated spring or some pennies towards a R6 unit.
Its on the highest preload setting and is soggy as foc, these are all jobs to do in the future, i just want to ride the thing this summer, and the summers here are long and scorchio, maybe the black swingarm will wait till end of the season in october.

The headers are off the bike came off easily no dilemmas, i forgot to take a picture of it before it went to the sandblasters.
Next up dismantle the rear caliper as the dust seals were shot as you can see from the next pictures they are corroded where the seals go and generally dirty, im contemplating sandblasting the outside of them as the paints a bit flaky.

A bit of 800 wet and dry on the pistons to clean them up, there is a svery small amount of pitting to one piston as seen but im hoping the rub down will make that go away or be a bit less.

Save the small o ring that goes between the two halves of the caliper ;) The new seal kit won't have that. Sanding the piston could give you problems in the future. If you sand away the protective coating it might cause the piston to rust more

From the picture of the dirty piston most of the dirty haze cleaned up with a rag, i only lighty sanded it under the tap, yep kept that o ring.although i may source another one, it's all to do with what type of rubber it is, i found this out when my gasgas 250 enduro bike must have "nitrile"  o rings for the exhaust.There's rubber and rubber :)
But thanks if it dies in a year then i'll buy a blue spot

I saw that kit, my fazer has only 1 central caliper o ring and the bleed nipples are good to go as are the rubber boots so i'll take a chance on the one i bought, it may be good, it may be bad lets see.the bike was £900 so i'm not gonna throw a lot of money at it, if it leaks then i'll take another path

personally speaking having owned a few japanese bikes and cars quality is better than german, i think that the O.E. yam ones will be the best but at this time £26 for a set of 4 bits of rubber, is well ludicrous.I may regret buying non genuine but the kids need a new trampoline  :rolleyes

Took the downpipes to be sandblasted, it's not a shock to see these as the bike is 18 years old but with a bit of welding work and some paint they should be good for a few more years
