I found the gen1 thous lights quite good.  Certainly streets ahead of the box eye Fazer 600 I had, that was just plain scary at night.

Yeah 2 H4’s in there.  I found brighter lamps were worthwhile.  Shop around as the prices vary quite a bit.  Also the brighter they are, the quicker they go pop.   Worth checking the estimated burn time on them.

I’ve put osram nightbreaker plus bulbs in mine, I must say they are excellent at night.

I read something saying the “night racer” were the bike ones as they are more rugged to vibrations...

Can’t see a bike suffering more vibration than a car. I had night breakers in my 4x4 off-roader a few years ago and that got absolutely rallied with no headlight issues

I tried nightbreakers before the leds...massive current draw and still not that much better plus the aggro of uprating the fuse. Just my humble opinion lads...I didn't want the pull of two amp heavy bulbs on the alternator all through winter, and I preffered the brilliant blue white of the leds. they aint cheap I know..but they are leagues apart from anything else and for me personally with my old eyes worth it in terms of safety alone.

All the ones in the autoexpress test are 60/55w.
You can get 100w jobs, but yeah way too much current, plus the heat could end up damaging the headlamps.
