Focer Font Of Knowledge. Borescope Endoscope
« on: 17 December 2018, 05:33:35 pm »
A while back it was mentioned on here for looking inside a tank and I thought at the time it would be a very useful bit of kit but I did not have a use but now I do so looking for some advice as to a cheap one that can connect to a android phone. Its first job will be to inspect behind/inside a stud and plasterboard wall before I drill some new holes to fit a towel rad in-place of a normal rad.

Cheap ones are available for about a fiver and give decent images/video. They do fall apart after a while though, glass pops off etc. Also waterproof if you have an inquisitive mind...

Thanks, I am now looking into if my phone will "run" one though OTG usb, my phone has a midi setting when I plug it in to the computer as well as charge or transfer files.
Seems that there could also be a difference in depth of field between models

I got one a few years ago, needed an otg cable. I used it on a galaxy s5 and s6 without issues. A mate also got one at the same time for his android (some Sony model) which also worked fine.

The sellers usually list compatible phones in the ads

Update on this. I brought one on amazon for £16 and is a very small 5mm head with inbuilt led lighting and is a 5m semi rigid cable so that it is fairly self supporting. The image quality is not the stated "hd" but is good enough to see what you are doing, works on the phone or laptop.

Sorry no. Just search semi rigid android endoscope, I have a feeling that are pretty much all the same Chinese things with a different name and packaging Rotek / pancellent and depstech were the ones that had the highest reviews but they were either the soft floppy cable or wifi. I did not want a wifi because I wont be using it much and every time I needed it I would first have to recharge it.

I bought one for something like £3 on ebay, does the job just fine, It's been inside the engine on my old storm no problems.

Yes I am pretty sure the only difference between a £3 one and a £16 one is --- £13. Although the fatter 8mm camera end does cost a little less than the 5.5mm. I needed it quick and did not want to take the risk of a £3 being no good for me.

Same as that just no name on it eBay £8-00 about 6 years ago, used on on quite a few occasions, from looking down a blocked sink waste (Waterproof) to looking behind an engine to try to locate a nut that had fallen off the back of a bolt, with sight I was able to pick it up with a telescopic magnet, without it the magnet stuck to just about everything but the loose nut    .
Looked inside a box section on a car chassis.
Great little tool, USB, Needs a App download to operate (Endescope).
Plugs straight into a Galaxy S6, light brightness is adjustable, takes pics and video.

Hey Sharpie,
Where abouts on your phone does the endoscope pictures get saved, I can take photos with it and view them on the phone screen, but, once I close the photo I can not find it again and there seems no option to save it, if it saves automatically like standard camera pic where the foc do they get saved to?

Could you do the Home Button/ Power Key pressed simultaneously to get a screen capture?

In settings for the app I can choose where captured images are stored. The app is called USB CAMERA in tha app store has some chinise letters and then a / Shen Yao China. I had to try a few before I found one that would work, the one on a disc that came with it would not work with my phone.
Just try a few different ones

Smaller the head the better. The aim is after all to insert it into difficult to access locations. Therefore you want it to be as slim as possible.

I need to route some cable around the house, so after drilling an initial hole in the wall, being able to see whats on the other side..... Would be a decent addition to the Toolkit at least. :)
