Finally Triumph launch a bike in their retro series that I might actually like to own and ride.1200cc, 96hp and 80lbs ft, should be pretty punchy.17 inch wheels, a low seat hight and just under 200kg, so should be easy chuck aroond.
No doubt will sound great on open pipes.
Dunno what the gaitors are aboot though.

Looks lovely. If only they made a 600cc model for us lightweights. I like the gaitors. Had em on my old yx600 radian, kept the forks spotless, used it as my winter hack for 5 years

I tried the Scrambler 1200 at the NEC. I've ridden the Scrambler 900 before. The 1200 is physically quite a bit bigger, and I suspect the Speed Twin is the same. The new Norton Atlas 650 is very nice and much smaller. Looks good but of course the engine doesn't look retro.

Was the scrambler with the old air cooled motor?As I'm under the impression that the current 900 is just the sleeved down 1200.

I didn’t like the Bonneville’s, they look as if they are trying too hard to be something they clearly ain’t – if you know what I mean. Too tarty as well.

The new Thruxtons are nice, but as soon as I saw em I thought – would be brill if they had sit up and beg bars.
So yeah I like this speed twin. Should be decently quick, modern handling with retro looks but without trying to pretend to be a vintage bike.

No it was the first of the 900cc liquid cooled Street Scamblers in 2015. Quite a bit more power than the 865cc air cooled.
Thing about the Bonneville is that there are so many accessories, you can turn it into anything you want. However like the Mini, they are getting bigger and bigger.
The new Royal Enfield twins look good, and of course are much cheaper!

The new Honda CRF450L dual-sport trail bike puts out about 25bhp. 25hp from a sporting 450 that costs nearly 10k!

The US version gets over 40hp. The bike that they're based on is somewhere around 50hp.

I've heard that it's due to the Euro emissions and noise regulations.

A cracking bike for the money,and you'd be able to do most jobs on it yourself.

It's not a sportsbike or a hyper naked. It's a cool retro bike.
Not riden one, but I'd be very surprised if didn't feel more than quick enougth. Don't for get the 80lbs-ft torque.

Yeah if you want one that will properly breakdown and that you'll never get parts for ;-)
I do love the styling of these but I'm still too young and power hungry to plod around on a "Torquey" bike.
Maybe when my back goes and I grow up I'll look into it haha

I used to have a 'proper old one' a BSA A65. It spent most of its time in bits. If I went out on it for more than 10 miles then I used to take most of my tools with me

and they're really good if you need to oil your drive or garage floor.

I really think when we rode those bikes we never realised just how crap they were,it's only now when you see just how reliable bikes are that you see.I've lost count how many times I had to leave those bikes wherever they'd broke down,maybe it was just my inability to maintain them properly

It's weird how it didn't enter your head to stop riding and breaking down it was just a way of life but it used to piss you off.

Not forgetting riding through all bloody weather in the winter as well, cos it was your only form of transport, snow ice, slush, rain, with crap tyres--Ahhhh Halcyon Days.

The new Scrambler 1200 prices have just been announced. From..... £11,500

Don't expect the Speed Twin to be much cheaper

LOL Been there.
I had a Limited Edition1963 650cc BSA Rocket Gold Star A10, Pre unit construction parallel twin with a Quaif TT Type 2 close ration gear box. Less than 1600 made. Loved it but spent more time working on it than I ever did riding it. Found this picture of one on the net, this is not mine but the same colour scheme and spec. Worth an absolute fortune now, sold it to a garage in Bury Gate Sussex around 1972, they gave me £85 for it on a trade in, and to be honest it was a fair price at the time. I purchased a Reliant Regal Van from them, Primrose yellow exactly the same model as Del Boys.
