Bust my fairing!
« on: 01 August 2018, 10:45:54 pm »
My own fault for being in a rush but the bike fell in my garage & I've broken the fairing above the rear of the headlight.. :'( :o

Any tips on fixing it?...
I'm thinking I can put some fibreglass on the inside for strength & then sand out the split line in order to skim fill it?

Fekking nuisance as I'm busy (& getting very skint) fitting new DID ZVM-X chain, Obigene sprockets & wavy rotors, Koso digital multi-guage, had new Metzler Roadtec 01 rear tyre, been tightenening headache bearings & generally tweaking things..........Grrrrrrr!  :\

I've had some success using a soldering iron and welding the bits together from the back being careful not to melt the plastic right through. you can use a bit of old fairing if you have any kicking round or plastic cable ties as a filler rod. there's a posting on you tube on how to do it. Though they are not as dear as I thought bought OME in the right colour from main yam dealer for £258 for my fz1s. It had fallen over when the previous owner hadn't put the side stand down properly and hit the kerb with the fairing.

I used plastex for a split/break from rear of headlight.
Did it 3 years ago and no problems at all.

Thanks folks, I'll check out both methods - glad not to use fibreglass as I hate the stuff!

Also had reasonable success with Plastech. Had it years and it still works with it being a 2 part liquid / powder

That's the stuff, pour the powder into the gap then add the liquid.
