Goretex or leathers?
« on: 18 June 2018, 08:36:10 pm »
Off to Ireland on Thursday for a wedding.
Looking warm, talk of a heat wave,
Do I wear my goretex textile kit, which is new so never worn in the summer it has vents etc, or leathers?
With the goretex I don't need to worry about  rain showers obviously. Leathers I need to pack waterproofs
whats your advise.

Cheers Nick

I'd personally go goretex. Leather has it's uses but keeping you cool and dry are not among them. Plus if you get dirty or sweaty etc you can just put the goretex in the washing machine when your back, instead of forking out for dry cleaning

Goretex probably more versatile, but I just prefer leather.
Although from my experience they can be just as hot as leather.
Where in Ireland are you heading too Nick?

my 2 pence worth!

I'd go Gortex simply if it does get wet it will dry quicker and nothing worse than pulling damp leather on!
plus by the time you realise its raining & get waterproofs over them you are already damp!
It ain't what you ride, it's who you ride with!!!

There are also "summer" bike clothes - with mash - so that air can cool you, along with protectors.

Leather offers better protection when sliding in a high speed crash - for all else (including comfort), Goretex is better IMO.
Most things done in a hurry need to be done again - patiently.

There's nothing safer than leathers... and there is nothing is more comfortable and versatile as textiles.

It just depends how enthusiastically you want to ride.

Personally I always wear textiles touring. Leathers if I'm just going for a blast.

Maybe not for rain but leather for me. I have a summer jacket with lots of perforations which help a lot

I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
