12K Mile Service and Windscreen Question

(1/2) > >>

canuck2302:
Hey Guys,
My 2007 S2 currently has 10,500 miles on it. I am going on a trip around europe in July which I believe will be 2000+ miles. Do you think I should have the service done now before the trip or when I get back? I believe the12K service is when the valves are adjusted? Has anybody experienced any reliability issues after having this work done? At the moment it's a very reliable bike, I don't want to mess with it if it will have negative affects on the reliability.
Also, screens. I know this has been asked a thousand times but the wind buffeting is pretty bad at my head, something I would like to try and rectify before the trip. I find at my height, 5' 10", the screen just directs the wind straight at my face which eventually makes my neck ache and means I can't see for dead flys within minutes. The general consensus seems to be double bubble screen is better than touring? Has anyone tried a clip on spoiler on the standard screen?
Thanks.

I'd have the bike serviced before you go. There should be no reliability issues after a service - if there are any then you've gone to the wrong workshop! If anything the bike should run even sweeter than before the service, if you notice any difference at all.
Make sure your tyres have enough life left in them for a 2,000+ mile trip. You don't want to be replacing them while on hols.

So you're worried that you might go 500 miles past a service schedule, Yamaha are renown for valve clearance stability.
I have 2 tdm's that have done over a 120000 miles and only had 1 valve clearance each.
So long as you change the oil and filter regularly the rest of a paid for service is things you should be checking weekly anyway.

Agree with above. Oil and filter change before you go, but if the bike is running sweet leave the rest of the service until you get back. But do check the bike over throughly before you go, and take some spanners, including the rear wheel.
forfor screens, I've got a FZS600, and also 5'10''.A double bubble usually stops wind buffeting

Ok thanks guys, I will probably leave the service until after the trip. Yup I agree about the tyre, will be putting a new one on there before I go. Cheers
