INSURANCE......BEAT THIS?
« on: 03 April 2018, 12:05:24 pm »
As per usual my car insurers sent me a risible renewal premium.
Paid £161 last year and they wanted £221 to renew, including a £10 renewal fee?

So, a quick search on USWITCH and found a premiun of around £165. Then checked on TOPCASHBACK and Aviva had a good offer. Clicked through and their quote was £149 but they gave me a discount for "returning" to them and I paid just £129.62, saving £92 !!!

Then this morning good old Topcashback emailed to say I was due £60 cashback so my cage premium ends up at just £69.62 for the year.

YES PLEASE, DONE AND DUSTED.  :D

Can anyone beat that?
I used to not give a foc, then I discovered Red Bull and now I don't give a flying foc !!!

insurances are a rip off these days.
what happened to comprehensive insurance??
in the old day's you ask for comp and you got the lot but not now you've got add ons.
I got a quote for £80 for my tracer 700 but by the time I added all the necessary bits it came to just over £200.
it was the same with my car 013 focus 1600cc that came to £243. from £120.
they've got us by the balls I tell ya by the the balls. :'(

My mum's got more than that, yet they more than doubled her insurance last year, it was previously around £340, and i'm on about a 1 litre motor at the time, then she got an old basic 1.2 litre car and they wanted around £780, until i had a good look around yet could still only get it down to £680.
Modern day Dick Turpin's, the lot of them.  :grumble

What's partially blame for the raise in insurance premiums is this compensation culture (ambulance chasing lawyers). I clipped a car parked, other driver not in the vehicle, in the road reversing out a tight parking spot so did the right thing found the owner and swapped details very small dint on the panel behind the drivers door, no damage to my plastic bumper claim settled no problem that was just coming up to 3 years ago. I'm still getting phone calls from different claim companies that's almost 3 years later. Some people are making a very nice living out of other peoples misfortune. (parasites)

UPDATE............... just received an email from old insurers in response to my cancellation, "We have checked our system and found a better price of £193"

Lick it, stick it and mail it to someone who gives a FOC.

If you have 100 years NCB they only take in to account 9 anyway.

I think the calls that you get could just be fishing.

I’ve never understood that, 50 odd years without a claim should surely be welcomed and rightly rewarded.
How can they justify only accounting for 9 years, it makes no sense?

After 5 years NCB you are supposedly getting a 65% discount , at 9 years supposedly 70% / 75%. After 50 years you might 76% !
Protecting your NCB is a nice little money earner for insurance companies,  you are paying to insure your insurance doesn't go up in theory.
The insurabce companies cannot lose.

With 50 year NCB your insurance should be foccin free!!
There should be a limit to how much you pay in your lifetime (day 10k) once you reach it you then don't have to pay anything unless you have an accident. Then the cost of the accident is deducted and you'd have to pay again until you reached the limit. Would make a much fairer system and the companies would still make money from the interest so it would be win win 🤔

Do they ever not make money?
I doubt it!

Protected no claims is a joke. I have 15 years NCB on my car with NCB protection. A week before renewal date, my wife has a small bump in the car and the other party, quite rightly, claims.

When I discuss the renewal, the insurance goes up by £200 because of the claim - I ask how, because I've been paying for 15 years to "protect" my no claims bonus.

Simple, they say, we're increasing your headline premium because of the accident, but you still have the same no claims discount. So, from my reckoning, the accident maybe cost £1000 to repair, of which I paid £450 (my excess). The insurance company then tripled my insurance premium for the next year, but then reduced it by    my "maximum" no claims bonus - it's a total swizz. Insurance is no longer based on risk, it's based on the insurers recovering every penny from you when you have an accident, but giving you nothing back when you don't- effectively, it's not really insurance, they're just loaning the money for the claim.

Insurance was once a risk-reward "gamble" (both sides win some and lose some) but now that insurers aren't allowed by their parent companies to ever lose any money (and they must provide bigger profits every year to satisfy their investors), they've just become giant cash cows for big business investors and as long as insurance is a legal requirement for driving/riding, without any Statutory Auditing to ensure the punters are not being ripped off, then we are just going to get screwed harder and harder every year.

We're all doomed.......to insurance poverty !

Insurance poverty - I like that, its a good campaign or "movement" as every focing thing is called now.
Don't forget that the government has its fingers in the insurance pocket too with IPT

Years ago not long after I passed my test I tapped the back of someone in the car, we both got out looked at the little scuff we both had he said narh that's fine and we both carried on our way. But that was both older cars with proper bumpers - the clue is in the name BUMBER - for bumping. These days you so much as touch it and it shatters into a 1000 peices and you are looking at a £600 PLUS labour replacement.
I prefer it when you see in other countries everyone has dents in their cars and when you clip someone a few swear words are exchanged but no one even stops.

While living in Spain we often used to watch people 'parallel park' by Whig I mean drive forward until you bumped the car in front, then reverse until you hit the car behind then repeat until you were satisfied you had parked 😂
Shocked the hell out of us when we first moved there but after a while you got used to the fact that you car was just gonna be scratched and dented.....like everyone elses
