Anyone had an HJC IS-16 and IS-17?
« on: 27 March 2018, 01:24:49 pm »
I'm thinking of swapping my aging IS-16 for an IS-17, and wanted to see if anyone has had both and what they thought about them

Very pleased on the whole with the IS-16 especially the quick detach visor and the internal sun shade. Vents are good and visibility is good as well. It's comfortable but quite noisy.

Is the IS-17 quieter?

IS-3 is a much safer option, though a bit tough to get a hold of.  :)

I have an IS-17 and think it is noisy but I wear earplugs so it doesn't really matter that much to me, its much lighter than the flip front Nitro I used to have though.
If you worried about falling off your bike, you'd never get on.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
I ended up with the HJC FG-ST, which is a fibreglass shell instead of poly, and has the sun visor on a lever by the side of the main visor, instead of the slide across the top of the lid, which means it's quieter.

Hope that you get on ok with your new lid but I had a look at it yesterday and thought that the leaver on the side looked like it would be noisy. The IS17 leaver is actually at the back of the lid. But I do feel that drivers think I am signalling to them or waving when I put my hand up in the air to the back of my head where the leaver on the side is just like adjusting the visor in terms of reach.
