« on: 17 February 2018, 07:05:54 pm »
So looks like my EXUP valve is completely seized solid in the housing so I'm looking to get hold of another one, preferably that actually comes apart! Thanks

Thanks Clive, Pat has been giving me some info and think we may have found a set. Meant to turn up Tuesday to Wednesday so fingers crossed! Wish I left the thing well alone now but then it was rusted shut! Thought there was a bit of a flat spot lol

1998 to 2000 R1 exup valve has the same part number as the Fazer 1000 so will fit.

Also if you come across one from a Thunder Ace of the same period.

So looks like my EXUP valve is completely seized solid in the housing so I'm looking to get hold of another one, preferably that actually comes apart! Thanks

Just wondering: have you tried freeing up your existing EXUP assembly? Heat it up and stick it in some penetrating fluid: WD40, paraffin + oil, diesel, etc. Might take a while but with a bit of persistence you may get it free.

In case it's any help, here is a link to a FSZ1000 EXUP strip-down and service:

https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/fazer1000/exup-valve-maintenance-t1524.html

If you do manage to get it apart, remember to check the EXUP valve for straightness. If you need to straighten the EXUP valve, be careful, they can be brittle.

Thanks robbo, another one I can keep my eye out on! Got some R1 pipes arriving today/tomorrow so fingers crossed the valve in them is ok. Seller made it sound alright!

Thanks stet, we are going to keep working on the existing valve, we have actually started to get movement from it  but I'm not sure if its going anywhere quick yet though. Cheers for the info!

JonnyFoxtrot,
You could be lucky with your one that you've got "in soak". However those valves can sometimes not be freeable. Flooky, on this forum has been trying to free up his original one, which had few miles on it, since September 2015  :lol . It's been seriously heated, and soaked in just about every release agent known to man. :rollin

Still sitting in diesel now,  its been heated to glowing, been in the freezer, been in the vice, soon to be on the table as an ornament.
But I will give it another couple of years first :lol

Excellent stuff. Don't forget to use stainless allen bolts when you swap it over, and plenty of highmelt copper grease.

There’s enough copper grease to take a bath in  :rollin

New stainless bolts all round too!

Nice way to end the day along with the new R6 Shock  :D

Good news. Even if you managed to free up the original EXUP valve, there is a chance that there would be a lot of play in the bearing by the time it is all cleaned up.
