EXUP Servo position photo
« on: 03 February 2018, 01:00:08 pm »

Ok, so I took off the servo motor for my Fazer 1000 gen 1 about 3 years ago and I cant remember where it went or in what orientation. Has anyone got a photo of the position of the thing.

Thanks.

Page 2-38 of the Fazer 1000 Manual shows its location from the side and 2-40 shows it from the top. Pulley faces the rear of the bike. Zoom in on the pages to get  a good view of it

Just a shame I haven't got a Haynes manual.

Right, fitted the servo and new cables, put the EXUP together and fitted everything together. Set it up and took it for a blast. At first it had quite good  pick up from just above tickover, but still had a flat spot between 4.5 and 6 K revs. I thought nothing of it really and took it out for a thrash. All went well for about 8 miles and then after shutting off from about 140 I found that the power had gone, it was running on 3. I turned around to come home and it wasn't happy at all, 3, 4, 3, 4, 2 sometimes. Managed to get home ok and checked everything, re set the EXUP because it was slightly out and tried it down the street, it doesn't like pulling just above tickover and usually runs on 2, then 3, then 4 sometimes. Its not happy.

Its worse now that what it was before, I'm gutted.

Its fine, the bike was going well until it dropped onto 3. There's nothing wrong with the EXUP valve, positioning is perfect, ive ridden it when the valve is closed so I know what that feels like, and its not that. Its definitely dropping cylinders and I don't know why, I thought it might be some crap that has got through because the tank has been lifted which would explain the low rev misfire because one or more pilot jets are blocked but that doesn't explain why it misfires above 7K when the main jet takes over, but sometimes it will chime in on all 4 and go like a scalded cat.

It looks like i'm going to have to have the carbs off and check the jets.

All the coils are still wired up wires removed and re fitted, ive checked the plug caps are all on properly, battery terminals still tight.

I'll fire it up tomorrow on tickover and see which exhaust is cold, at least i'll know which ones aren't working, but it wont help to find which one isn't working when it drops onto 2, it only does that at very low revs with medium throttle openings under load, but not at a standstill when theres no load.

I'm not happy at all.

Draining the float bowls and let the fuel flow through for a few seconds  might be sufficient. Check the connections to the Ignitor for corrosion. Although if it drops on to odd number of cylinder it points to intake issues more than electrical. Are the blanking plugs for the vacuum take off points intact. They can crack right through and still look ok

I dropped the bike off at Foleys bike shop in Fenton on Saturday and he rang me first thing this morning. He reckons its now sorted! The plugs were knackered. Hes drained the float bowls too just in case. I'll find out if he's taken it on a test ride tomorrow. The snow was quite bad round Stoke today. Heres hoping!!

I'm getting rid of it anyway. I want something better, something a bit quicker, a bit nicer, so ive just put a deposit on a better, quicker, nicer 04 plate Gen 1 Fazer 1000. Well i'd been staring at it in the for sale section on here for a while, and me and my mate did a deal across my old VN800 which he now owns and I want back, and he wanted my Fazer for holiday trips. So I end up with my old VN back and Joe's Fazer 1000, just got to sell the Victory Vegas now and i'm in gravy.

More news - I picked the Fazer up on Saturday. £225 lighter I took it for a spin and its proper quick now, superb grunt from tick over, clean carburation all the way through with no flat spots, all I could think is, so this is how they should be!

They replaced the plugs and stripped and cleaned the carbs, balanced them, fitted a new choke cable and removed my heated grips ready to be fitted to the new bike. They checked the exup setting and it was perfect.

I'm well chuffed with it now, shame its going to my mate, i'm just a bit worried my new one wont be as fast. But Joe's Fazer has had the Full Monty done so it should be ok.

What does the Full Monty give you over a standard, but well set up Fazer with a filter, jet kit and race pipe?
