What Fazer / commuter to buy
« on: 05 January 2018, 09:10:43 am »
Hi everyone.

I'm commuting about 15k a year any bike suggestions welcome. Like idea of Fazer 8 but possibly a bit heavy on fuel?

Other options are an FZ6 Fazer and put a 17t front sprocket on it, Suzuki sv650 s or.... Honda NC700s

Thoughts welcome. Thanks!

welcome to the forum

what kinda roads? where abouts are you commuting on? (I take it you mean 15k miles not just 15 kilometres! lol)
It ain't what you ride, it's who you ride with!!!

Ha ha! Yes. Just 15k per year! Commute is 19 miles. 1 mile out of city, 3 miles of dual carriage way and rest A roads and through and couple of villages. Also 15 miles each way to see mates. Through two Bath and Bristol and the boards between. Hope that helps

Hi and welcome. If commuting is your main focus then I'd be more inclined to stick to a 600 just purely for the MPGs. The fuel consumption was the first thing I noticed when I made the jump to a thou. Most 600s driven right will get easily into the 200miles per tank range and there's still plenty enough power in them to 'play' on the weekend.

How new of a bike are you looking at? And what sort of budget? That info might help us give you some more suggestions 😊👍

One option is a fz6 Fazer s2 with 9k and full service. Could stretch to a Fazer 8 and 3-4K price. Think would love a Fazer 8 bug might struggle with fuel consumption? Anyone get anywhere near mpg with one of them? Fz6 is on for 2.6k and seems like a good deal

I'd personally go for the fz6 s2 out of the two. Cheaper to insure, cheaper to tax and more than likely cheaper to run but I'm not sure how the 8 is on fuel. The fz8 is the prettier bike imo but it's pretty much just a watered down fz1 from most accounts

I commute in a gen 1 thou. Perfect for the job, get 200 miles out of a tank easily, low revs at cruise speed, plenty of power when you want it.

From first post, SV650 are fun but they are tiny. If you’re tall it won’t be good for commuting plus quite a sporty riding position, bit heavy on the wrists. Great on fuel though!

I've got a Fazer 8 if you are interested. It's got FSH and new MOT. Just had the major valve adjustment service done. I can email you photos if you pm your email address. It's 4 years old.
