Ivanising - gone wrong

Well I managed to break the drill bit in the bypass holes, unfortunately just below the surface. Luckily I have been able, with watchmakers tweezers & an eyeglass, to remove the end of the broken drill.

Can anyone confirm the drill size, I measure it at .95 mm, but would like to confirm that. Next task is to find somebody who stocks that size locally....

as there will be nowhere to get the right drill bit today, I have improvised.

It was out with the dremel..... but to make a mini bench grinder. I've never been great at sharpening drills, a .95mm drill was to be a challenge, but it worked and all the bypass holes are drilled.

A bit delayed, but I can get on with it, I guess I'll not be testing it today.

Well done, nice improvisation.

I would have offered to send you some of the bits I've accumulated as spares over the years but it would take a week or so for them to get to you.  Hopefully you won't be needing them, though.

How accurate does the the sizing of the holes need to be? I know nothing about Ivanising   but as an engineer I know it is impossible to sharpen a drill freehand to produce the original hole size.  It is easy to sharpen one to drill a hole but the cutting edges are never the same length, the result is the hole ends up bigger as the larger cutting edge rotates around the drill point.  You really do need a drill sharpening attachment to do it accurately.  Hopefully they are not that critical.

You are right but as he is enlarging an existing hole the center point does not matter as only side flutes are used.
