Welcome Stu, you might be needed to give advice, being a mechanic.

Are you proficient in balancing carbs?  :rolleyes  :lol

Welcome to the joys of biking.

You're gonna have a lot to learn as you will soon discover that bike mechanics are a lot different to car mechanics but you do have a head start.

Yeh ive had and messed with bikes in my younger days, these Fazers,Thundercats etc have basically a small car engine so should be ok,just need the weather to ride and get some practice in. Stu

Sorry to say I'm not a fan of the XS 400 - I restored a XS 250 US custom about 20 years ago, which even when it was finished was a pile of crap. In those days the little Yam SOHC twins were gutless and a really poor relation the the RD's (but maybe yours is the little DOHC screamer ?) - but in a Flat Tracker style, maybe I could change my mind.

I'm helping my best mate uprate a XS650 Special right now - it has late model FZR 600 forks, front wheel and blue spot calipers, a modified Thundercat swinging arm, with mono shock suspension (trying to get the right Yam back wheel to fit the bike and line up with the gearbox sprocket - which will be offset to get the best tyre size compromise) and we're busy trying out ideas for the bodywork (it already has a flush mount petrol filler cap) by narrowing a R6 tail unit.

I'll post pics when it's finished- but that'll be a fair way off time-wise right now (work and winter spoiling progress)

Yay finally picked fazer up yesterday, had a quick blast on it b4 it started peeing down,im impreesed very muchly, has new Bridgestones, ohlins rear shock, new chain and sprockets, scott chain lube system, heated grips,Remus exhaust system(lovely sound)and front braided hoses, twin headlamp dip beam mod, cant wait for better weather to have a proper run out, seating position is far better for me than the ZZR i traded😀😀
