Fuel tank capacity on FZS600 Foxeye 2003
« on: 04 October 2017, 09:45:39 pm »
Just a question really:

What is the fuel tank capacity on FZS600 Foxeye 2003.
Been told three different capacities  :rolleyes

Maybe i should have asked the question elsewhere rather than starting a post.  :o

The fox eye should be 22 Ltrs. Early boxeye was 18ltrs and then 20 Ltrs from 2000 to 2002.
From measurements I did on a boxeye model there is about 1.5 Ltrs that can’t be used because of tap stand pipe and depressions in base of tank below tap face.

Thank you gentlemen- 22 litres it is or 4.8125 imperial Gallons.

Shit I just thought of something that is a lot of weight up high when the tank is full, I assume that petrol and water are a similar weight and water is 10.2 lbs a gallon, that's 49 lbs in weight up really high on the bike, that will make a huge difference if the bike gets away from you when manhandling around tight obstacles. :eek

Technically water is a bit heavier than fuel, hence the reason if you have water in the tank you'll have problems starting the bike after it's been sitting for a while.

Ive noticed that tommy , shape of the tank dosn't help either , I like to get as much fuel in as possible dribbling it in right to the brim , you can feel the difference for the first few miles , definitely a  bit top heavy , small price to pay for a cracking bike   ;)
One, is never going to be enough.....

Petrol is about 3/4 of the density of water so a tankful will be about 16 kg (or 35 lb if you like archaic units).
But you’re right, it does make a big difference particularly if you’re not very heavy yourself. I certainly notice the change in handling and acceleration after filling up… and I’ve dropped the bike twice in the past year, both times while manoeuvring (dismounted) with a full tank. It makes it a bastard to pick up again too.

Pffft it's nothing. Try a Tiger 800 (or any adventure bike) if you want to know the meaning of 'top heavy' :-)

Thanks guys for the input or perhaps that should be tanks for the input.
Good to know that petrol is in fact lighter than water.

I am the same at fuel stations dribbling the last drop of gas in so that the tank is brimming, that last few pints can take a life time to get in, you think it full and it seems to settle back down the filler neck.

Thinking about the bike getting away from you whilst holding/manouvering it in tight places or even worse while sat on it on a angle/slope sideways on and your foot goes down on grit, gravel or debris from trees etc with a full fuel tank it really does make a huge difference to picking the bike up.
Someone told me if you can turn the handle bars down so that the lower side is nearer the middle of the tank and lift with the other hand on the grab rail under the seat fairing it is meant to be easier to lift. I have to admit to struggling to get the old girl upright again each time my bike has gone down, Weak wrists, classed as Rotation & Impact damage years of swinging pick axes and sledge hammers and kango type electric and compressed air breakers.
I am very strong and fit for a seventy year old but my wrists let me down.
Poor old fucker.  :eek

:agree

I have a Tiger and an fzs600 and I know which one I find top heavy. The fuel tank on the fazer is not that big and does not really make the bike top heavy. Its the lard arse sitting on the seat that does most of that :pokefun

I don't think I've noticed a difference with the handling when the tank is full.

The tank design is one of my favourite features from an aesthetic point of view.

I really like the way the frame tubes are exposed beneath it.

when lifting a bike always remember anger is the key
had to pick up a vl800 (about 250kg) after getting knocked off and knackering my leg
shouting Muther F**ker as i literally flung it up made the cager shit themselves
= must admit i was a 15 stone no fat construction worker at the time so that may have helped

but serious downed side of bike bring bars close to rear wheel - turn your back on bike -hold bars, and whatever you can with free hand - and lift
if laying on right hand side - put in gear and kickstand down
health and safety would say bend your knees not your back but in this case it works
