I intended to ride down to the Ace this morning having read one of your previous reports of this event, but the weather forecast put me off. Turns out it wasn't as bad as they predicted. Just started chucking it down in Cambridge now.

Did you go today?.

Hi YFF.......yes I did   :) ...like you was watching the weather , had to go into work early in hemel hempstead so dressed for showers  , got to hemel dry , a great sunday morning ride so went from there straight to the ace....bit overcast but dry, was able to push the mighty thou along a bit  ;) .......

Thousands , tens of thousands , every two stroke ever produced from every country in the world , so busy I couldn't even get in the car park.....and I was on foot    :lol




considering the uncertain weather there was a good turn out, lots of KH's 250 400 500 750 , gt 250 750 , rd 250 lc 2/350 ypvs , fantics fizzies AP50 oh and an X7 just like mine but in one piece   :o       ill post some piccies later   :thumbup

At least 3 RG500's there!. One in the more unusual black/red/white colour scheme.

Lots of modified Yams too. Especially those TDR 250's! :eek

Bet the aroma was lovely around the Ace today  :b

I always feel a bit sadly nostalgic after looking at performance two-strokes, just knowing that it's gone and these fantastic, fun machines will never be made again.

Looks brilliant though. Next year I'm there.

Wish I'd never sold me 350 powervalve  :(

There were so many wonderful gas guzzlers tearing down the tarmac leaving the unmistakeable aromatic smell of partially burnt 2-stroke oil in their wake.
No modern brakes,tyres, frames, suspension, electronic controls, but engines that got the heart pounding as the adrenaline kicked in.
What was the cost of petrol you ask? I seem to remember 6 shillings a gallon(or 30p for you youngsters who probably werent even born then!).
Great times indeed!

It was an absolute blast back in the late 80's.

There was a kind of cult scene around the two-strokes of the time, in particular the RD350.

Anyone new to bikes now would be stunned at the sheer variety and number of different models in the Japanese manufactures ranges then compared with nowadays.

There was something to suit everyone.

I our club racing categories there are two stroke classes, some real screamers being screwed to death, come and see, the last race off the season is in October, on the 7th at Thruxton, Andover, come along and witness some great racing and see me on the fazer

Ahh! pull into Grayland Motors Camelsdale near Haslemere Surrey, 3 gallons of 3 star in the old BSA 650 Rocket Goldstar ,20 Anchor (Cheap Fags) box of matches and about 1/9d change from two 10 bob notes lol (£1)  :rollin

hi YFF.....thats why i go to these events , last year got chatting to the guy who owns the red suzuki in my pictures , my bike had no seat lock or bracket and he kindly let me take a few pictures of his lock , i made a new bracket and fitted a new lock and thats all ive done in the last year , ive got some piccies somewhere , i'll sort them out and post......

I wish I had a even a quarter of his talent.
He could never have afforded to complete the car if he'd had to have the body professionaly made.
He approached a coach builders to ask if he could study their plans, but they refused to help him unless he commissioned them to do the work.
It was partly lack of available funds that dragged the job out to 20 years.


The '20' (hp) was the first model Rolls Royce designed for the owner/driver. Previous to this they had all been produced with the intention of being chauffer driven.
Often nicknamed the 'Baby Rolls' or 'Doctors Rolls', the target market was self driving professionals.
