Top Box rack...plate...box... confused?!?!
« on: 26 August 2017, 02:11:54 pm »

Apologies if this question sounds a little dull  :z  but having just become the proud owner of a lovely 2003 FZS600 i'm currently trawling the 'inter-web' for a simple response to what it is I need to fit a top box from scratch... any recommendations for racks/plates/boxes etc... Ideally want to be able to pack a lid and a goretex/armoured jacket in it... or is that too ambitious? :rolleyes
Cheers guys :)

If you want to fit a box, Givi is the only real option.

It does seem that Givi is the only company that makes racks these days? on my old Fazer thou I had a Rennetec rack which nice and handy, quite small but it looked good and was made of steel, is everything made by GIVI made from plastic ?

You can get aluminium plates but to be honest the plastic versions are very strong. I’ve hammered mine with heavy loads over the years and never had an issue. The rentec sports racks have a tiny load rating on some bikes, seem to recall its 2-3 Kg which doesn’t leave much spare after you’ve got a plate and box fitted.

Only the top plate is made of plastic sometimes. The strength is in the arms. Unfortunately Retec are Shite!. They are sports racks designed for carrying a pair of trainers or a light bag only. They are not meant for boxes to be fitted.
