56 Mpg
« on: 26 June 2017, 09:25:28 pm »
Hi been on a run to the east coast, filled upon the way out and filled  up on the way back. Took care to fill to the same place in the tank and did the maths and over 56mpg, mixed riding including stuck in a traffic jam due to a unfortunately bike accident, but most of the time in top gear toodleing along at the speed limit.
I think  that is not bad, any one dun better?

Hasn't everyone got a C90/70/50? I haven't looked yet, but I'm sure there'll be one tucked behind the shed at the bottom of the garden. Go and check dazza, you're sure to find one.

I get better MPG out my 4x4 round town than my FZ1. I just keep filling the FZ up and enjoying emptying the tank with a flick of the right wrist.

Well, umm, yeah, OK.  But there’s a bit of a story to my C90.  Bought for me mammy in 1974.  My Dad should have first checked that my Mum could balance on a bike, ie ride a bicycle.  Well guess what.  So with three young kids to run after etc, the brand new C90 got pushed into the garage and forgotten about.  In 1986 I dragged it oot o the garage and passed my test on it.  In 1987 it was pushed back into the garage and forgotten about (now with 2500 miles on the clock, ground down pegs and leg shields along with a little crash damage).  Last year sadly I had to sell my parent’s house.  So the C90 moved again from their garage to mine.   It looks a bit sorry for itself now, but I think it will scrub up OK at some point.  I figure it’ll sit in my garage till I retire then I hopefully restore it and run it again.

Though I’ll need to pluck up courage to ride it again.  Bloody scary little things if you ask me.

I had a C50 when I was 13-14. I remember I used to take it down to some waste land to ride it and my parents came down one day.
My Mum wanted to have a go so I started to explain the crack with the centrifugal clutch and gear change.
No sooner had I started my Dad piped up and said " She was riding bikes before you were born son"
Thoroughly reprimanded and feeling slightly foolish I let her get on with it.
She revved it hard then banged it into gear and yes you've guessed it.
The front wheel came up while she hung off the back pulling the throttle back as she did and crashed it into some stinging nettles.
I wanted to laugh but I daren't until I knew she wasn't hurt.

I've averaged 39.2 mpg on my MT10......... Yes I'm a sad Foccer too. :D

Yup, I know how it goes.  Hope she was OK.

I remember one of my first outings on the wee thing.  Sitting at a junction I selected first gear ready to go.  Saw a gap, wacked the throttle open wide, nothing happened, so I kicked the gear lever again……………. well you know what happens.  I was trying to turn left but I went straight across the junction on one wheel.  I was lucky.  Didn’t make that mistake again.

Also, it still had the original Yokohama Super Slides fitted.  With solid foot pegs (leg shields gave you some warning of impending doom), that scary clutch, pretty much useless brakes and wobbly handling, well the Yokohama Super Slides were just ideal finishing touch to ensure that despite 7.5hp or whatever it was you would regularly be scared absolutely foccing witless.

Scary little things.

So what do you manage to a tank compared to the FZS1000?

Best I've had is 158.8 miles before I bottled it and filled it up.
The gen 1 will do over a hundred miles more than that believe it or not. Best I've had was around 270 miles from a single tank, taking 22.5 litres to fill which is about 54mpg.
I'm pretty sure on a long run the MT will average low 40's maybe more but  lack of self control can have an adverse effect on economy. :b

:eek  Were you a nun in a former life?! Jeez, I don't cane mine everywhere (my wallet won't let me  :( ), but even when trying to conserve fuel I've never managed better than a bit over 200 miles. I'm off to check mine's got the right fuel tank fitted!

It's all about being smooth  8)
Coming back from Hereford once, all motorway, legal- ish speeds. I almost hit 200 miles before the fuel light came on.
I'm also one of those annoying  people who spends ages getting the last drop of fuel in the tank before a long journey.
You've rode with me Mr Trimmer, I'm easily encouraged to be a dick  :b
But sometimes it's nice to be smooth and steady and enjoy the ride while   taking in the scenery or playing the sad .... How many miles can I get from this tank game. :D

I'm smoother than an extra smooth smoothie on national smooth day  :lol

I used to spend ages trying to fill the tank to the brim on a long trip too, but then it occurred to me I'd want to stop way before 200 miles anyway, so don't bother now. Never played the how many miles from a tank game though. I consider myself to be quite a sad foccer, but I'm just not as sad as you, I guess  :pokefun :b

What the foc :eek   That's sad foccer territory.

I've managed just over 190 a few times before the light came on.  I'm usually between 140 and 160 after brimming it till the lamp comes on.

140? Sad foccer!! 😉I'm lucky to see 90 out of a full tank 😕 admittedly it's not ideal but I don't generally go much further than that on it so it's alright 👽

Yes another sad foccer here i'm afraid folks, once did exactly 270 miles to a full tank, wasn't planned though, misjudged my fuel stops coming back from the top of Scotland a few years back, was convinced I was gunna run out of fuel but made it in the end, managed to get 20.95 litres in a 21 litre tank so only just made it, just for the record i'm not always such a sad foccer and iv'e had lot lot less mpg, honest!!

You lot don't know when you've got it good. My old Denco-tuned Kwak 750H2 was a proper thirsty beast. Don't know what it was getting to the gallon, but it didn't even make 2 miles on reserve one time, and that was taking it easy  :eek

After my first full week of usage, I got 47mpg for mainly motorway commute on a  Gen 1.

Fairly happy with that.

Normally get 140-160 from a tank but recently brimmed it and rode smoothly but not that slowly over a couple of trips and got 217, brimmed the tank again today and got 19 litres in so 52MPG, certainly helps the wallet, pity I can't be that restrained all the time..................
