Valve Clearances Help
« on: 25 June 2017, 04:44:42 pm »
Hi Guys,

First time I have ever done this so just wanted some words of advice really.

Have checked the clearances as best I can ( I hope :S) some of the tolerances seem right on the edge of minimum.

Would you recommend leaving them, or if shimming is required, which ones?

Worth getting someone else to double check?

Have attached picture of my measurements.

Many thanks in advance :)

Next valve check is in another 25,000 miles, yeah? If thats the case, then Id do them while youve got it part stripped. Another 25,000 is a long way

Assuming teh gaps reduce with age, I would do them all.
On both the inlet and exhaust you have one that is on the limit and the rest, bar one, are only just off the limit.

If it was me, I would go with +0.05 on everything but I have no idea how these shim things work.

Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again

Hmm, not really what I wanted to hear :'( lol

Really should do them while its part stripped but I dont like the idea of taking cams out as I have never done it before.

A little daunting to say the least.

Well, went with what you guys said and cracked on.

Easier than I thought so far. Double and treble checked all the valves. Camshafts are now out, measured a couple of shims to see if what I had been scribbling down was correct and all looks good so far.

On the intake side, I think Im gona re-shim all the .13s and .14s, and exhaust side all the .23s and .24s.

After re-checking all valves again that would mean 9 shims required.

I really hope this is right  :rollin

Cheers.

Yeah I ended up buying 7 shims from Yambits and re-using a couple of my old ones :)
