If I want to replace my brake lever do I have to buy a specific Yamaha Fazer lever or are they a standard thing I can buy a generic brake lever?

You do need to buy one specific to your bike, just go on ebay and you will be spoilt for choice.

You don't need to buy a lever from Yamaha, there are pattern parts which you can buy which are a lot cheaper, just do a search for FZ6 brake lever.

Not really, I have Chinese made levers on my FZ1s,  plenty of other foccers have as well and are happy with them, other people won't touch them.
If you go on ebay M & P do a copy of the original lever for £12.

I bought a set of a Clutch and Brake Lever from eBay a couple of years ago for about £15, they seem to work fine. Unfortunately I can't find the details now, but there are plenty out there.
