« on: 05 March 2017, 10:06:47 pm »
What are peoples top 5 most dramatic/effective mods they have done?
Im guessing a few could be:-
-High end Spotlights or LED fromt light MOD.
- Kebabs R6 shock mod (plus Fork springs etc)
- Renthal LowBars possibly?
- a decent touring screen for those of us who have a long comute?

fairing was damaged by previous owner so :switched to dominator headlights
when i get the factory speedo working again
koso style speedo going on
dominators will be vertically mounted
future plans include
renthal bars in blue
streetfighter tail piece eventually
alarm removed or deactivate button hidden under tailpiece
all will be painted metalflake blue
then will start really upgrading with usd forks and custom triple trees
prob build a new braced swingarm to match wheel

Headlights seem to be a game changer, considering how bad the originals are

The top ones I have done are a Nitron R1 Mono-Shock on the ass end.
And with a lot of encouragement from Kebab, and, also reading his posts on the subject, I did the front fork conversion, converting from 'Damper Rod' suspension to 'Cartridge Emulator' (YSS Emulators) suspension and fitting Ohlins Linear Spring matched to my rider weight.

I deviated a little from Kebab's posts when it came to overcoming the damping effects of the Damper Rods, because the rods on the 2002-2003 FXS600 are shorter that the earlier Boxeye.

A very, very worthwhile upgrade. I could have done it for less money by going the second-hand R6 shocker route, but I didn't.

Spend in total start to finish about £650, maybe a tenner more, maybe a tenner less

I know that it is dead money and that I will never recoup the cost, should I ever sell it on, but the bike handles so, so much better, it steers into bends better, holds it's line better without any diving in on undulating surfaces.
I have so much more feel through the bars I feel now have contact with road surfaces, and, the ride comfort is much improved.

Would I do it over again knowing what I do now? YES I certainly would.

It is not a difficult thing to do but it takes time and you need to work methodically and accurately when drilling out the Damper Rods to overcome their effect.

The thing is I guess I am less likely to lose the bike cornering now, but with saying that I am cornering faster, I feel more confident and my chicken strips have diminished 50% in the last 5 rides.  :eek

Forks, rear suspension, bodywork, wheels and lights
That just about covers it
Complete fabrication, I didn't make it up!

Double bubble windscreen
handguards
Scorpio exhaust
k&n air filer
scottoiler
Everything else has just been serviced or replaced with OEM parts, which all work perfectly fine, so I think the design is all good but to be fair the old girl is 17yrs old, used abused and high mileage. Although the candles are pants.

What is best route for fork swap, doesn't really matter about cost, just ease of swap. Really would like to keep up right riding position.

So far mine have been
Sculpted seat - to allow for my almost dwarfish short legs.

Lower dog bones on rear shock & forks dropped through yokes - see above!

Oxford heated grips - all year round rider.

Touring screen & Renthal flat bars.

Scott oiler.

Considering the HID conversion for the lights.
