Lucky lucky lucky!!
« on: 04 March 2017, 08:09:16 am »
I'm sure you folk are well aware about the well known sprocket nut  issue?
Well after buying the bike last year I was delighted with it even if I had only done 10-20 miles before tucking it away for the winter! As with everything I've owned/bought I always like to strip it down and check all the wear and tear items e.g., pads, calipers, seals, bearings, bushes and well everything really. So I'm a bit pernickity so had a list as long as my arm with things needing done which probably didn't but anyway this bloody did!!!

Did you just do front sprocket, do you know what mileage the chain has done, i'd be tempted to do it all?

Possible stupid question alert but just double checking, is buying this one from wemoto ok (correct part number) or should I be going to Yamaha to be charged a lot more money?

No Harry. Go to yamaha, the sprocket nut upgrade is to cover their ass. As such it's offered to us foccers as a special kit at a knock down price. You do however need to provide the right code- see pic  :)

You can start here, or just use the search part above and type in "front sprocket nut".

So then Mr SutherlandFZS600
Is your bike a 98 or a 99
also how many miles
Did the front sprocket have an orange plastic bit on it
Do you know if the sprocket has been changed in the past
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

I believe mine to be a 98 fazersharp
Front sprocket did not have any orange plastic bit on it
I'm unsure if it has been changed or if that was the original sprocket.
Why are you asking all this anyway?

The original front sprocket had a orange centre so it has been changed at some point in the past. Smile

Its because i have a theory that the 98 FZS does not suffer from the famous sprocket nut issue, but it has to be an factory fitted oem one to rule out any bad fitting by someone else. So when you post with a 98 saying your nut has come off I want to see if it is a factory fitted one that has failed, but no it looks like I can chalk up another 98 that is in the clear and another 98 proving my theory.
Search here for Sprocket Nut and you will find my posts

Ah right yes I see what you mean! Yeah there was no orange damping disc on when I changed it, but it was still the older 9mm nut that was on there

REEEEEESULT, spoke to my local Yamaha steeler.  If you give them the individual part numbers it's £15 for the nut and washer.  If you give them the part number in the picture near the top of this thread........

£2.60!!  BARGAIN!!

Cheers guys, top advice as always!
