How do I get this bit off!?
« on: 16 January 2017, 03:08:56 pm »
I need to get to the wiring at the rear of my bike, but my fat fingers and hands have only such a limit!

I noticed the top of the fairing, there is a kind of cut out that looks like it would slide out giving me more access, but buggered If I know how to remove it!?

Any ideas people?
I did unscrew two screws from underneath that were at an angle, but nothing...I don't want to risk snapping it or anything...

Sorry for the big pictures!  :eek

Can anyone please help? :rolleyes

It looks like you have to take the rear side fairings off 4 screws / nuts , its very easy ......

It just kinda looked that this part would slide out, but it doesn't budge...will let you know how it goes!

Once all the screws/bolts are off you need to pull it apart slightly and back. There are 6 screws/bolts in total, front underneath ones are plastic.
Unscrew the plastic and lever out the plastic retainer

If you are talking about the plastic section above the rear light, you take each of the rear side panels off and then it will come off. It does not slide out. IIRC, there are screws or clips holding it in which can only be accessed once the sides are off.

To get the sides off, you will need to remove the rack first.

Posted it before I finished it  :rolleyes

As Brown1664 says

When the whole unit is out turn it over and undo the screws/clips to take it all apart.

I struggle with mine when checking the wiring to the lights and indicator. I think I damaged mine in the end. Just go steady with it and don't be tempted to force it as the tabs and bits holding it together are pretty brittle.

Yes, the flap only comes out if you've got the whole assembly is out, which kind of defeats the object of removing it at that point.

I can't remember the exact details from when I took mine off, but there were four bolts that hold the grab rail on, then 2 or four more.  It was all pretty easy to work out.

Got it all sorted! :)

A lot easier than first thought! The bit that appears to slide off is screwed in place, so if I was to leave them out, then it would do what I thought it would, however, no idea how secure that would be, so have left as is.

I don't know what I was worrying about!  :lol
