Gen 2 Fz1s 12000 mile service schedule
« on: 18 October 2016, 03:44:00 pm »
Could someone with an original hard copy Yamaha service schedule tell me exactly what is done on the 12000 mile service please, I've seen a download but this doesn't tally with what the bike shop is doing for a full service prior to me buying the bike, it is 8 years old with 10k on the clock. Not getting a good feeling about the shop but I've paid in full, schoolboy error, too trusting.
Cheers
Carl

I could change my opinion, but then we'd both be wrong.

Does anyone think dealers do all that in a service  how much is a mechanic labour at dealers per hour now and how long would it take to go through all that and you drop bike in at 8.30 for a service and they call you up at 2 to say it's done , even if they started at 8.30 which they don't it's a long list

I doubt very much that they would lube the head & swingarm bearings, just check for play. As for the coolant being changed you would have to look closely to see if there are any obvious signs, i.e. Radiator drain or hoses recently taken off or undone and coolant looking nice and fresh. I would guess at a check over,  maybe an oil & filter change and possibly a set of plugs. But I might be wrong......... :rolleyes

Doesn't take long to check and lube stuff, if nothing needs doing a couple of hours tops for a good mechanic.

Trouble is my last "service plus " as the dealer called it came to £320 , does anyone remember the days when biking was a cheap fun mode of transport, I love my gen 1, but bring back 2 smokes , what about a 500 lc fazer  :eek  , I saw not long ago Stan Stephens did a 1200cc V6 lc engine imagine that in a fazer ..... sorry gone well off topic

Ended up with a full refund from the shop (more reasons than just the service) without any problems so cannot complain about the customer service after I decided that I wasn't happy, shop couldn't have been more helpful or professional; moral of the story is discuss the fine details exactly before parting with your cash. The bike hunt continues but probably going to wait until next year, unless a beauty comes along.

I service my Gen2 myself.

@12,000 miles I dropped the coolant and did the plugs.

There was no point; the coolant still tested fine and the plugs were in good nick. My 2pence is that the schedule is on the OTT side, and i'd be surprised if even franchised places did everything listed.

I would imagine it would take more than a couple of hours to strip the front end out to lube the head bearings properly, and likewise with the rear end to lube the swing arm bearings properly, in addition to all the other checks that are "scheduled" to be done.
