Rewiring the ignition
« on: 08 September 2016, 05:01:21 pm »
Recently my fazer was stolen and someone atempted to hotwire it and failed.

Is it possible to just simply replace the broken cable with a replacement one? Or shall i just not bother and simply say its a write off and get a new bike?

From what ive found out if i just want to replace the lock i have to get a ECU to match the keys.

As the ignition and the steering lock is intact on the one with the damaged cable i think it could simply be changed.

Aditional damages are
Bent front forks which can be straightened
Cracked top yoke

Work needed
New battery
Stiff clutch leaver
New tyres (as usual)

If the top yoke is craked and the forks are bent, I would suspect there is damage to the frame around the headstock area too.

As for the damaged cable, cant you just join the two bits back together?

All that said, with the damage I would scrap it. The chance of having a hidden crack in the frame would be too big for me.
