Which Tires for a 2004 Fazer 1000
« on: 07 September 2016, 10:29:14 pm »
Good evening all

I am about to become the proud owner of a new pair of boots for my trusty steed , and would appreciate some advice/guidance re which pair to go for, my riding is mostly commuting with the occasional flyer .

looking for rubber with good grip/stability/feed back and a decent life span.
like most of us I have read all the usual gubbins but there is not enough up to date / relevant info available, so thought I would ask the people who know these things.

Hope to hear from someone shortly as I am almost down to the canvass on this pair.

Cheers
Neil

When u think about your riding style do you think you would be able to outride a tyre???

Do u see yourself as a full on racer with knee down @ 200 mph????

There are sooooo many tyre threads on here debating all aspects of performance/longevity/wet riding/cornering / flat line speed etc but 99.5% of us will never be able to overcome even a Fukin continental @ full pelt so don't think it's an issue. Go for a tyre with long life so even if u foc up you'll know u  will have SAVED SOME CASH....here endeth the lesson lol
Just flapping about on this stagnant little pond on the outer rim of the internet.....yup....  :-))

As Exupnut said-there are so many opinions about which is best.
What are you currently riding on?
Had Dunlops on my thou but only because thats what it came shod with. Have used Bridgestone BTO23, Michelin PR3s, Pirelli in the past.
Love the PR3s on my FZS 600 especially in the wet-inspire confidence.
Some on here swear by Maxxis.
there are some good pair deals available online but then you have to factor in cost of fitting, balancing & environmental charge for disposal of old ones unless you are a tyre fitter :lol

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys, much appreciated.

Truth be known I probably couldn,t out ride the thread bare canvas showing crap I currently have on .
Michelin PR 3s look like a good bet I have been quoted £200.00 for the pair Fitted , (reasonable  ??)
I doubt if there is such a thing as a bad tyre these days, although it would appear that some manufacturers who actually make the tyre size required state that they do not recommend them for the Fazer 1000, info not readily available from some tyre shops , (cant imagine why)
Anyway thanks again
Neil

Hard to go wrong these days, but I would recommend Bridgestone T30's. There is a new version out (the T30 Evo) which are supposed to be bloody brilliant so you should be able to find discounts on the older ones.

I agree with Paul. Bridgestone T30 Evo fitted last year. Very happy with them.

I've only had my gen 2 a couple of days but the bridgestone t30s on it seem great.
I've put it through some paces already and there's plenty of grip and make yiu feel confident in them.
Haven't tried them in the rain yet though but all in all I'd get them again when it comes time to replace

I've just put a pair of Z6's on my Gen 1. £110.00 for the pair from Bikespeed.com. Fitted them myself. Good warm up characteristics, stable in the wet - first 1000 miles have gone well  :thumbup
Well old school - but then why not?

PR3's, on second lot now, great performance and they wear really well. The dogs nuts in the wet as well.  :D

Ran Conti Road attacks for years due to price, but that changed when the Pilot Roads 2 became cheaper.

The PR2's have better grip all round compared to the Conti's, but in the wet they are vastly superior to the conti's. With the conti'' s I was never fully happy in corners or roundabouts in the wet, but the PR2's changed all that.

I have had Michelin PR3, Michelin PR4 and Metzler Sportec M7RR

Did not like the Front PR4 wear pattern and then used a PR3 front with PR4 rear which worked well, great for wear and wet grip

Sportec M7RR on at the moment find them good wearing and good in wet, but take a bit longer than the PR3/4 to heat up on frosty mornings.

M7RR are best for quick steering and outright dry grip

Bridgestone T30 EVO's on my Fazer Thou, although I've not tried PR4's yet, which were awesome on my Z1000SX.
Both were great in the wet.
My only complaint, T30 front whitelined badly when worn down, probably beyond the point where most people would replace them anyway.

Had BT023 and Mich PR3 on my gen 1 Thou (amongst others). I definitely can't out ride a tyre but I did find the PR3 very confidence inspiring especially in the wet. PR4 are said to be softer so may not last as long but I've not had them.

Literally just fitted a pair of T30 Evos to my Street Triple and it absolutely chucked it down within 5 minutes of leaving the fitters. Rode 20 miles in flash floods and big hailstones on brand new tyres  with no issues but that's all so far! Guys on the Street forum all raving about M7RR. Much lighter bike than the Thou though. Also a sportier profile so it turns in quicker and is probably more stable right on the edge. I find sport touring tyres better though at normal lean angles - warm up quicker, better in rain and last longer.
