This could be quite funny

They say they are using the original scripts. Recalling how non-politically correct Till Death Do Us Part used to be, I seriously doubt there will be no tweaking going on.

I've been a big fan of the Hancock's Half Hour radio and TV shows since I first became aware of them when I was a kid in the early 80's.

The missing radio episodes that they recently re-made were wonderful.

Apart from the Sid James character (apparently he is notoriously difficult to mimic) you could almost forget that you were listening to a re-make.

They stuck faithfully to the scripts and character traits/personalities.

I've just been reading an article about that in this weeks Radio Times.

It says that they haven't altered the script, but they have selected an episode in which he says very little that's controversial.

Nice one darrsi, good to see the great Spike Milligan on the screen again. :lol  Stuff like that was acceptable then as it was an example of 'reverse racism' back in the day.

The thing about all of these "non PC" series was that the main characters causing all the trouble were always made to look stupid anyway.

I'd got the impression that in recent years the BBC had become embarrassed and ashamed of the programme.

If that is the case it seems odd that they are now paying homage to it :rolleyes

I sat down yesterday afternoon and watched the "Till Death Do Us Part" and "Are you being served" remakes. What a load of tosh.

The Are you being served one was pretty much what you would expect from that programme but Till Death us do part was a load of crap. IT may have been true to the original script but there was a reason that one was never filmed before. it was not that funny. There was very little in the way of Alf Garnets trademark comedy and certainly no racism or political incorrectness unless you include scousers in this.

If you haven't seen this series yet, don't waste your time.

I recorded both of them, but lasted about 10mins for each.
Simply not funny whatsoever.
Some things just can't be remade, and need leaving well alone.

I didn't think the new porridge was so bad, but not a patch on the original. It seems humour evolves and moves on along with the rest of life, things that were really funny 40 odd years ago are no longer funny.
I recall back in the sixties see a back up movie at the cinema (when you used to get the main movie and a backup one) called 'Home  of your own' with Spike Milligan, Ronnie Barker and numerous other we'll know comedy actors, It was filmed in black and white and there was no speaking in it at all just silly music playing quietly in the background, I remember finding it so funny and laughing so much because of the antics of the builders in the film, the film was a backup to a film called  'Shot in the dark' and it was based on a building site. I found that film so funny at the time that a couple of years ago I found it on eBay it had been ripped off and stuck on a DVD. I sat down one night in eager anticipation with a couple of beers and it hardly brought a smile to my face.
I'm not sure if I was easily amused all those years ago or whether I am just a grumpy old bastart now.

I still find Porridge etc funny now but then I have a warped sense of humour. I just didn't find the new remakes that funny as they removed all of the non-PC stuff.

He was born in India, so technically wasn't doing anything wrong.  :lol
