I've got a thou and I still have to do the funky chicken and the foxeye 600 I had was no difference. I think the only rear proper improvement you can make is to switch to bar end mirrors, but I've never used them personally

Switch the left and right over. It makes a bit of a difference.

Yeah I like the funky chicken :D
I've swapped mine over for Cheapo R6 pattern mirrors from fleabay, they've made a good difference.

The mirrors are not identical. So switching them over left/right results in the head of the mirror being higher or lower (cant remember which) than originally. It might make the difference you need.

Sorry still being a bit thick here, do you swap the whole stem from the fairing which would then mean that the mirror is facing the wrong way, is the mirror head then able to twist all the way around, perhaps raising it on its ball and socket/knuckle joint.

You swap everything, mirror and connecting rods and rubber covers.
You don't have to 'twist' anything.
Put it this way....
Sit on the bike, take the left mirror off, keep it facing you and then move it over to the right hand side and locate it in the holes.
You'll see the mirror stem is in a more upright position, repeat doing the right to left.
Secure both and adjust the angle of the mirror to give you rear view, you will find they sit at a weird position but that's because your used to the way they are now. When I done it I had far better view with original position but I'm a short arse at 5'5" and not broad, so I can see no problems. :)

Now you see thats the bit I dont get because the left mirror points to the left if I took it off whilst keeping it facing me it would still be pointing to the left and so sitting over the clocks.
Maybe I need a few more beers to understand

:think Surely if you loose your left mirror, your right mirror will be left?

It sits a wee bit taller bit more upright tbh but not to my liking tbh
You can turn the rubbers around and then twist the mirror housing (as you mentioned earlier) 180% and try that but as I can see ok I didn't pursue that option.

Surly sitting more upright would make it worse - it needs to be sitting more at an angle to stick out more and not more upright
Need more beer

Yep, well it didn't work for me!
Just normal position works fine for me, maybe I'm just lucky :)

Yours may be on back to front already. A previous owner may have switched them over.

You have nothing, other than 10 minutes of time, to lose by trying this. It may save you a fortune on new mirrors.

mine are on as Yamaha intended and I can get a reasonable view of whats behind me, sometimes need to do a bit of elbow jiggling to get a better view and wearing a jacket with heavy elbow armour doesn't help the situation much, I was thinking of getting low renthals with the logic being it should drop my elbows a bit giving me a better view. has anybody else found that they get better rear view by using lower rise bars?

The problem is I start a simple, not very necessary job like that and then regret it after mullering the yamaha cheese nuts, dropping the spanner on my tank, spending 1/2 hour chasing the washer fairies that live in my garage only to give in half way cause I wanted to go out for a ride but now its all too late cause its looking a bit cloudy.
I came up with this idea a while ago, the inside would be sculptured and marry up with the back of the oem and be glued/velcro in position.

Cheers fellas, the cheapest option I've found today is learning to do the funky chickung ;D might give swapping the mirrors round a go too cuz I'm a cheap ass student. I gotta be honest that's a weird idea fazersharp, but impressive if you pulled it off! How about some of those stick-on square bent mirror things on the shoulder (correction- elbow) viewing area as a halfway house?

Possible someone fitted the R1 mirrors to it before you bought it.
They have shorter stems than the fazer ones but look identical other than that

Hey guys, I'd like to change my fazer's mirrors as well and wondered if these would fit: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Replacement-Mirrors-Left-Right-Pair-for-Yamaha-YZF-R1-07-08-/331854222184?hash=item4d440d9368:g:sp8AAOSwl-FXNFfE

I would reckon it's best to contact that seller and ask the questions like bolt hole distance etc as finding anyone on here who purchased these would be quite slim I'd think.
